Wetherholt rookie season with Cardinals

Post by ramfandan »

If Wetherholt plays from the get go this year, will he start off hot , so-so, or struggle ?
If JJ mirrors the 2024 start of Brewer rookie Jackson Chourio, he would struggle the first couple months acclimating to major league pitching. From June til end of season, Chourio batted over .300
finishing the year with an overall batting average of .275 , 21 HR, 22 SB in 148 games and
3rd place N.L.rookie of year. (Skenes was 1st place)
In Chourio’s case, early ‘chasing’ was an issue. Thus far JJ has not shown that tendency being quite disciplined at pitch selection.
Looking forward to JJ’s rookie year .

If Wetherholt finishes his rookie season hitting. 275, it will be considered a successful year. Im hoping for 25 doubles, 15 home runs, and 65 rbi.

This sounds about right Juan. That and solid D at 2B or possibly some time at 3B. He doesn't need to set the world on fire. Just be himself and get used to the bigs. He is not Pujols....., but a lineup with 3 or 4 bats of this type could do some serious damage. Contact hitting, and hopefully few K's. Gap power with a few dingers. If we are lucky we will all live to see another generational talent like Pujols in a Cards uniform. Most likely, JJW is not that player, but he could well be a very good one.

Would you believe me if I said I could actually be too low on BA, OB% and OPS? 8O

I don't think a triple crown is too much to ask for

Always the Brewers for comps for this and that. The profiles of Chourio and JJ couldn't be more different. JJ has had equal numbers of SOs and BBs in both college and the minors, and his OBP was .467 in college and .418 in the minors. Chourio, by contrast, had 100 BBs and 258 Ks in the minors, with an OBP of .343. And both have slugged nearly the same in the minors at .487 for JJ and .483 for Chourio. Bad comp.

Man that some praise. We are reaching territory that requires no injury and mucho luck. Now. Add a surprise performance- say Walker, then we are on to something.

Good morning. You make an interesting point, at least to me. You say he has all these great attributes- do you think with computer assisted balls and strikes, that he may even hit better, never being robbed of strikes.

No luck needed w/this kid BDog, he's going to be the "face of the franchise" for many years and could win batting titles!

No way w/J. Walker who I have no confidence in until he shows he can lay off sweeper/sliders out of the strike zone.

If he doesn't win at least 5 triple crowns in his first 7 years then he's a bust.

Ok then this simply comes down to one mitigating fact- injury. This includes minimal effects from the ankle biters and that nagging injuries turn chronic. Endurance and longevity depends on it.

Yes

All players have to stay healthy to reach their full potential.

You know- the foul ball off the foot, the hit by pitch, the ground ball bad hip off the wrists, naggers like that.
