Re: Petro, Barbashev, Mikkola
How many more screen names does this guy need to talk to himself?
I count at least 3 in this thread alone.
There's only 1 person on this planet who's forsaken the real world to regale this forum with the daily and everlasting quest of remembrance of the 3 most important centers of his existence:
-Army s*cks (especially for trading Petro)
-Petro is God
-Top 5 picks are the only way he'll ever cease his incessant whining
Side projects:
-Broberg is soft (and hated for the very notion he could potentially replace Petro)

Re: Petro, Barbashev, Mikkola
Hated losing Petro and JBo in short order, but both are no longer players so we have what we have. Broberg was a lucky/great pickup. But even if he reaches the caliber of JBo, where is the secondary of 1&2, where Parayko is 3? That is where the D stands. Not the caliber and depth of the '19 team, and the forwards do not have the tenacity, forechecking, 200ft game either as that team. We shall see what comes to pass as there is a changing of the guard underway, and can't live in the past when most of the nameplates have changed....or are changing

Yeah Armstrong just sees his face when he sees statues. I think he’s in love with him…or it’s trauma based

What a great meme and it is basic enough for most in here to understand-top notch!

Petro deserved to be treated like the club actually wanted him to sign here.
Barbie is like a less skilled Barkov. He’s so so so so so valuable. He left way too casually.
Mikkola should have replaced the identity Boumeester provided.
As much as you guys want to do well the best thing to do is draft in the top 5.
Binnington has to be traded, hopefully after value is increased at the Olympics.
I would trade anyone but Neighbors and Hofer.

Re: Petro, Barbashev, Mikkola
The Petro situation has been a huge cluster, and because of the horrendous move, he made 2-3 even dumber moves trying to replace him, and gave those guys partial no trade clauses. LOLTheSolution wrote: ↑28 Dec 2025 16:49 pm These were really bad decisions

It's clear how Dallas went from Cup contenders to pretenders, to him out on his (bleep), fired.

But while we are at it...Stenberg is providing similar to what Barbashev did at this same age/experience. Note, I liked and still like Barbashev, was sorry to see him go.
And although of a different build and perhaps varied strengths/styles, Lindstein could be a better overall defenseman than Mikola. Note, I liked and still like Mikola, was sorry to see him go.
But you cannot keep them all. There is a thing called salary cap and player's desires. There are unforeseen and unpredictable happenstances. The heart is a mysterious creation...just ask Kris Letang or Jay Boumeister. Oh, since I mentioned that name. I always liked him. One of the most elite skaters ever with good size. Now I'm not saying that Mailloux skates as well as Boumeister, but...And I do recall that the knock on Boumeister on this Forum was that he was not physical enough and did very little for the offense. Let those last few sentences sink in as you contemplate and watch a D-man skating, his physicality, ability and instinct to join the rush and getting back quickly on D.
Re: Petro, Barbashev, Mikkola
Liked both Barbashev and Mikkola, but I doubt there's much pining over them if they had been playing for Anaheim and Columbus all these years instead of powerhouse teams. There will always be guys like this that "got away"... for every team, any given year.
Petro though, will forever be the single biggest mistake in Army's career. At the time of the negotiations, he was almost irreplaceable. And the attempt to replace him came way short, at way too big a price. I mean, what does it say that we feel blessed that one of the replacement pieces had a career-ending injury?
Petro should've retired a Blue, and he would've bridged the gap perfectly while leading the team, and the D especially, to what certainly would've been more competitive seasons. He gets a lot of hindsight hate on here, but he was truly a unique style of player with his size, mobility and IQ. In a vacuum, every GM in the league would be happy to build their D around a prime Petro. You give a guy like that what he wants, IMO...instead he just walked.

Does Petro get any of the blame at all....remember, he CHOSE TO LEAVE.
and Jaybo's sudden retirement had nothing to do with the decline of the defense?
Krug was a +34 his 1st 2 seasons here but we are blessed he got hurt? He had a degenerative condition that got worse as he played.
Sorry, but I disagree with you.
Re: Petro, Barbashev, Mikkola
Yep, pretty much. One skill of being a GM is understanding when a player might be pretty accurate with their assessment of themselves, and has all the leverage.

Why does Opie need to keep being reminded?
Army won the cup and decided to act like this wasn’t about players but about how well this is managed.
He Jerry Kraused Petro.
He leveraged Petro bringing in Faulk a then signed a really bad human being in Krug the day before he signed in Vegas for less money when taxes and cost of living is accounted for.
He married a StL girl and wanted to be here. I know this personally.

Re: Petro, Barbashev, Mikkola
By season’s end Petro will have missed 2 out of 6 years. Army was right in hindsight. Whine, cry, throw as many tantrums as you’d like, but Fact is there’s a good chance Petro would have only been healthy enough to play for half of his 8 year deal here.
Re: Petro, Barbashev, Mikkola
Wow...he went to Vegas but didn't really want to.
That must have been tough.
hahaha...omg.
