Maybe I should word it differently- I believe the new group will be very good at player evaluation, maybe top-tier.

2024 spring training: Scott will fill in at CF. Overmatched in a huge way.

If the 2026 spring training were to start today, the team would have a number of questions. Examples: 1) can Herrera catch? 2) can Gorman hang at 3B? 3) Can JJ hit at the MLB level? 4) Any red flags with Dobbins/Fitts/May?

Unlike us Cardinal fans, who only have the games we watch to go by, I hope the improved coaching can assess and evaluate quickly. For instance, we shouldn't have to watch Herrera catch for 85 games to realize he shouldn't catch. People are worried about Gorman playing 3B...I'm hoping our coaches have a better understanding of these players and can evaluate and make adjustments.

I'm hoping for no more April 'oh (firetruck)!' surprises.

We saw a lot this the last few years and for some reason Mo was slow to react. I'm more worried about Gorman, especially a lingering back issue. I am hoping Walker and Herrera can show improvement.

Maybe Mo really was leaving everything up to Oli and he was assuring Mo everything would work out with all of those performance issues and thought he could coach the underperforming players out of it.

It wouldn’t surprise me as it seems Oli is most concerned with being one of the boys instead of being a disciplinarian and ensuring accountability.

Good and relevant topic. I’m not one of the posters who think I’m smart enough to be a GM or manager, but it’s perplexing and frustrating when anyone watching can tell certain player’s aren’t ready or had obvious flaws all season with no corrective action, and many other things just not working while absolutely nothing was being done about it. Could they not see the obvious, or just didn’t care?

That’s nice, but what if the results of the evaluation are that these young guys can’t do it?

Oli certainly isn’t the right one to develop them after they’ve reached a major league given his track record with Gorman and Walker

It shouldn’t be the major league manager’s job to develop players. They need to be ready for him to use and his job is to put them in position to succeed.

Not entirely true. You want a player to be major league ready sure but there’s also development of young player even in the majors. Expecting them to be in their prime the second they hit the majors that managers and coaching staff shouldn’t have to coach is irresponsible. Especially when the level of play drastically changes, obviously, from the minors to the majors

Exactly. Development doesn't stop on a dime once players reach MLB. That's been proven a million times. Of course, the manager and his coaches are charged with helping players get better if they can get better. Coaching should never stop, unless it's bad coaching. And the jury is still out on Oli and his staff in that regard.

I agree. It should not take 85 games to determine. The eye test of an atheletic observer can go very far towards critique.

I found it Not true. It has higher THC levels, but the human body only processes so much. The rest is a waste. I smoke a one hitter every 30-60 minutes. I really don’t feel much difference. Works well for my glaucoma and Crohns. .

I think once studied, we will find that the other chemical compounds get you as “ high” as thc. I think THC was initially the whipping boy, and that stigma never changed.
