Out of the box thought with Walker: Play him at 1st base?

By all means lets give this guy who doesn't have enough to work on a new position to learn.

Where do you guys come from?

Where did Walker originally play before his move to the OF?

What does that have to do with anything?

I’ll answer: 3b

Which is a similar, but harder, position than 1b.

So he wouldn’t be learning a new position from scratch.

The point is he has more than enough on his plate just trying to get out of negative WAR territory and staying in the league as a hitter.

He by far has the best throwing arm of any of the Cardinal outfielders. He has speed to track balls, and this should be the season he starts excelling with the bat (if they leave him alone). Why even consider moving him 1st base? Burleson will be fine at first and will hit around 20 long ones and hit around .285. To me it will be catcher and LF that will be a concern.

Why? Well the OP theorizes that 1b could increase JW’s comfort level, which would bleed to his hitting, hopefully.

But unlike you, I didn’t get the memo that 2026 is the year JW starts excelling. I’m just going by his .584 ops last year.

They just need to leave him alone. They already have a first baseman with Burleson. I remember when you didn't want them to trade Contreras. It seems you move as the wind blows.

I was never against trading Conteras.

Just because I liked WC a lot and defended him against your petty criticisms, didn’t mean I was against trading him.

I just have no idea why Cards fans would dislike WC.

Ordered to move off catcher in early 2023 and embarrassed.
Asked to move up in to the plate in 2024, injured.
Asked to move to 1b in 2025. No complaints.

All three years: produced

All three years approached the game like we were in a pennant race. An aside from 6 weeks in 2024, we weren’t even close.

All the while we have seen ‘leaders’ Goldy and NA sleepwalk through lost years—-never WC.

And still, some don’t like him? Weird…
