Jordan Walker

Post by OldRed »

He is exactly the kind of player the Cardinals would trade for. A 23-year-old with a world of potential talent. I can't see him being traded.

Agree, he is way too young to give up on. On the other hand, Gorman lacks a lot and also has reoccurring back problems.

OldRed, I met Dave Parker.
I saw Dave Parker play.
OldRed, Walker is no Dave Parker.

Not yet, maybe never, but isn’t he worth holding onto for at least a few months into the season?

No reason to deal him now.
Multiple years of team control.
Doesn’t make squat.
Trade value low.
Isn’t blocking anyone.
Option year also a bonus.

Deal him? Deal him for what? He has no value. Was he over hyped? Hard to coach? Whatever, he is a bust and I’m afraid he will continue to be a bust.

Well, preferably he would be a few years younger and not have a couple of miserable MLB seasons behind him, but yea, he would be a good piece to trade for if you were a rebuilding team.

Although if we were trading, say, Donovan, I’d like a hitter that was a bit more advanced than he was before the Cardinals promoted him.

You have to play him.

He may be too far gone and probably is but what existing choices do you have.

There isn't one.

Give him all the AB's in ST you can and stat him day one in RF and leave him there.

Sometimes a player just has to figure it out on his own.

The team has nothing to lose in doing this.

I'm not sure those numbers work the way you think they do. Parker started out nothing special, and by the time he was 1000 AB into his career, he was one of the best hitters in the league.

The scary thing about Walker is not that he's taking time to heat up. It's how badly he's regressed from his first year.

And that’s the very sad part to the situation but hopefully Bloom addresses this.

People seem like they would be excited to get Lazaro Montes back as part of a trade for Donovan, but Montes has considerably more holes in his game all around than Walker had/has.

) than BOTH Goldschmidt and Arenado plus he had 16 HR' in his rookie campaign. Then he regressed terribly.
Whether that was coaching changing his swing , his own stubbornness to make changes, etc. but he fell off the cliff big time.

Will he ever regain offensively what he did that rookie season , I don't know ? No doubt if he stays on the club for 2026 season, he must show a lot more .
Will see if this offseason at Driveline plus other work he has put in has changed anything . If he struggles mightily the first 3 months , it could be The End for his career with the Cardinals.
