Re: Parayko/Edmonton Trade Scenario
Bowman traded for Jarry because Armey is not incompetent. Dubas got out from underneath a horrible contract. Why are hard takes and commenting on bad trades not part of the entertainment value of speculation and discussion? I totally agree about tbe entertainment aspect but didn't realize there is a style guide here for affecting the "correct"tone.oldbattler wrote: ↑26 Dec 2025 09:03 am+1zamadoo wrote: ↑26 Dec 2025 08:15 amWhen there were rumors about Binner to EDM, why did EDM trade Skinner, Kulak, and a 2nd for Jarry and Poulin?IsDurbanodoingtime wrote: ↑25 Dec 2025 19:55 pm Any trade that brings back and takes on jarry and/or frederic is grounds for termination. Parayko is a number one defender. Not worth a Hughes but that doesn't mean we accept someone else's [shirt] contracts. Jarry lol. A patrick lalime flashback.
Some things I thought about while reading through others' posts:
One of the main reasons Parayko is even discussed as an option to be traded to EDM time and time again is because he's from Alberta just outside Edmonton.
Another reason is that Edmonton has been in need of defensive help for what seems like a decade. Amazingly, they drafted Bouchard and signed him to $10M while letting Broberg walk at 24. So we're talking about having offer sheeted Broberg and now trading them hometown hero Parayko for whatever they have left. (better take Paul Fischer back, ha)
If Parayko wants to play there and a deal can be made, I'd be happy for him and think he would have late career success. Unfortuntely, with the cap situation the best anyone can do is try to add value and juggle contracts for an in-season deal like this, which is why they don't happen too often and speculation on this board is more for entertainment rather than propositions based on serious expectations.

Re: Parayko/Edmonton Trade Scenario
That's funny...because it's true. I can't imagine what Edmonton might have to offer for Binner, even though his trade value is low right now, much less Parayko. Much less both. They just don't have anything we would want in any scenario. That's why all they could manage for a goaltender was Jarry. Their cupboards are bare.Tony Palazzolo wrote: ↑25 Dec 2025 16:32 pm The only Oil first rounders that might be worth it are already on our roster.
Re: Parayko/Edmonton Trade Scenario
Binnington said no to EDM from reports and it’s not like there are a ton of options to choose from. Who’s offering starting goaltenders? Not much of a market at this time.PregnantNun wrote: ↑26 Dec 2025 11:40 amThat's funny...because it's true. Re: Parayko/Edmonton Trade Scenario
I can't see us trading out Parayko - now he could be traded tomorrow and I could be completely wrong. I think the trade will involve Faulk when it comes to someone moving out from the d-core and with the season he's having we shouldn't have to retain any salary and get nice pieces in return.

So you say Jarry is negative value but then can't provide any reason why Edmonton took on his contract other than "because Armey is not incompetent" meaning he wouldn't trade them Binner (which I would agree is good that he does not do). So did they trade Skinner for Jarry just to get rid of Kulak and Skinner, regardless of how Jarry performs or that he makes as much as both of them combined? Are they just delusional?
I don't want Jarry, but might agree to a trade taking him if we get a good enough return. I don't think Edmonton has what it takes.

theres no way edmonton has cap space for parayko

Re: Parayko/Edmonton Trade Scenario
get picks and prospects, from some one and get it done. as much as people on here want him to be a top 2, he's not. let other teams over pay for him

Indeed.Tony Palazzolo wrote: ↑25 Dec 2025 16:32 pmThe only Oil first rounders that might be worth it are already on our roster.crookedfeeder wrote: ↑25 Dec 2025 16:11 pm They (Oil) looked pretty darn good vs. Flames; but still think they'd love to have both Parayko and Binnington to be safe. So I guess the Jarry contract would come to us. As for prospects and picks; they don't have a 1st rounder for 2026. So 2nd in 2026, 1st in 2027, 1st in 2028. That being said; horrible trade partner, zero prospects worth a dam.![]()

Re: Parayko/Edmonton Trade Scenario
All I know is I miss the Parayko of last season. Night and day difference from then to now. He has tried to control the play a little more as of late with some end-to-end carries but he's a shadow of last season. Unreal he not only has 0 goals this season, but he doesn't even appear on the cusp of scoring his first. It's not like he's out there p*ssed banging every shot he can to get it.
Colton's just way too nice a guy. If this year's version of Parayko is what's in store for the last leg of his career, I'd say trade him and others for prospects all day.

He does not appear any slower to me. His IQ seems to be the same as well.blackinkbiz wrote: ↑26 Dec 2025 15:30 pm All I know is I miss the Parayko of last season. But agree something is going on......I'm sure his shots are down too and not seeing the obvious reasons why. Maybe something in his head.
Either way I do not take this as the beginning of the end to his playing days.....his style of play can take him into late years imo.

He can play a shutdown role but he isnt a #1. It doesn't know anything about hockey. It thinks defense is about putting up the most points.2forDiving wrote: ↑26 Dec 2025 09:42 amYour compulsive obsession with Broberg is duly noted. Re: Parayko/Edmonton Trade Scenario
The obvious take is that Edmonton is incompetent ( not "delusional").They went through a stretch (discussed here) where skinner was getting lit up with the 9 to 1 debacle fresh in the minds of management. They were desperate and thought (think) a "hot" stretch by Jarry was the answer. Magical thinking ala signing jack campbell (still paying him as well). My comment was in the context of trading cp for a package that included Jarry and frederic (and their hefty multiyear salaries). There is no scenario in my mind for that (ok maybe mcdavid or leon) .zamadoo wrote: ↑26 Dec 2025 13:21 pmIsDurbanodoingtime wrote: ↑26 Dec 2025 10:31 amBowman traded for Jarry because Armey is not incompetent. Re: Parayko/Edmonton Trade Scenario
Maybe it's because he's playing with Broberg who is taking on a more prominent offensive role. Last year he most often played with Suter, Fowler, and Leddy.dhsux wrote: ↑26 Dec 2025 16:37 pm He does not appear any slower to me. His IQ seems to be the same as well.

Just looking at CP55's stats for this year:
1.2 SOG/game, a career low.
Pacing for 22 points, which would be a career low.
15 seconds/game of PP time, a career low
Playing 5.6% of the team's PP time, a career low (it used to be close to 40%, but has averaged around 10% in recent years).
0.92 hits/game, 2nd lowest of career
He's also getting a minute less of ice time compared to last year.
But he's blocking shots at nearly a career high rate and 3 highest years of PK minutes have been the last 3 years. I don't know if that's enough to say he is "just playing more defensively" or not, but his defensive stats are up and his offensive stats are down.
Re: Parayko/Edmonton Trade Scenario
Well a number of your points support he's down and others (pp and ES toi) give some insight into maybe why.PregnantNun wrote: ↑26 Dec 2025 17:03 pmMaybe it's because he's playing with Broberg who is taking on a more prominent offensive role. Your last point there is why he's not being ragged on here....his D which is foremost important remains pretty solid.
He reminds me of the many anomaly's adding up to the teams play this year.
