That’s the problem. He would be an upgrade. Not a major one but signing for three makes it a no deal for me. Ironically I might go two but all that depends on what other options are there.ecleme22 wrote: ↑24 Dec 2025 23:56 pmI’m sorry, but do you have an argument to sign bader to three years?Carp4Cy wrote: ↑24 Dec 2025 23:27 pmIt’s what we have. If he could be had for a reasonable two or three year contract (well under $50m) that could extend into our competitive window. We could even front end load the contract in 2026 to make 2027 more flexible for additional talent payroll wise.
2021: .785 ops
2022: .650
2023 .622
2024: .657
2025 .796
You want to sign that to 3 years?
I appreciate Bader and I think he can complement a good team.
But I guarantee if the cards sign Bader to three years, and he has a .645 ops mid June, you’ll be asking the CT administrators to kindly delete this OP.
Plus a much higher ceiling.
If Walker posts another .584 ops, he won’t start.
If Scott posts an another .601 ops, his playing time will be reduced.
That’s your bar?
Donny is probably gone and will reportedly be traded for P not for Andy Pages. Noot is hurt until July. Willson is gone so Burly is our everyday 1B or DH. Hererra takes the other between 1B and DH unless he’s able to return to C.
We have no OF and the improvement isn’t coming from internal options.
Bader would be our best outfielder by a factor of two

Great, so he had a decent year in his contract year. Looking at his career I would pass. Sure, a one year prove it contract, but that is not what he is seeking..... We can certainly do better. We probably won't though. So we all better hope that either JW improves, or Baez turns out to be the real deal, or something good comes of a trade, but Harry is not a great answer, even if he is better than what we trotted out last season... Merry Christmas, my 2 cents, feel free to disagree!

Time to think about moving on. Walker has had 3 years and gone backwards. He's already NOT improved. If he improves later then he can always earn playing time but he shouldn't just be given yet another 162 game tryout to "see what he can do" because he's young.Wattage wrote: ↑25 Dec 2025 07:15 amThe hope is they are young players who will develop. If they were 10 year vezerans posting those numbers we wo I ldnt start them.Carp4Cy wrote: ↑24 Dec 2025 23:27 pmIt’s what we have. It’s who played the last couple years. If they dont improve those numbers we will move on.
I wouldnt be opposed to signing bader but your logic is whacky. Theres inherent reason to give those giys playing time and if they show their upside great. If they dont then time to explore others
Scott is halfway to the same point as walker, and an even lower career OPS. He's profiling as a defensive replacement/4th OFer.
Bloom has said we need to look for a RHH OF, we have the money, we have the playing time, and there's still playing time for the young guys that earn it. It doesn't have to be Bader, but the fact that he's a significant improvement over what we have internally AND doesn't cost prospects puts him on the list. And he's better than some of the others on the lists. Happy to discuss other RHH options on the list too.

Not sure if it’s aiming ‘higher’ or just ‘smarter.’

Bloom said he's looking for a RH vet. it can be in addition to Walker, but walker needs to earn it himself. Theres plenty of pt to go around for those who deserve it.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑25 Dec 2025 11:40 amWalker. Both cheap and smart. He has to hit better. Cant hit worse.

Been there done that. He had his shot. Failed miserably. Signing him would be a step back. I would rather fail with Walker. His last chance then move on from him if he doesn't perform. Going after someone that is better than we have but not a prospect to be the type player we need is just a bad idea. No offense.
Re: Bader would be our best outfielder by a factor of two
bretto12 says Bader hits 250 with vert little power, he averages 15 HR a uear. VS II barely hits 200 and has virtually no power. Bader is way better than hi defensively and offensively/ God help this team if we have an OF of Walker, Scott and Nootbaar. That will be the worst Cardinal OF of all time

Get back to me when he gets a 3 year deal.
It won’t happen.
His best deal would be 2 years at a lower aav. I can see 1/12 or 2/16 maybe.
If I’m right, those are doable numbers for a player who fits a need and is potentially flippable for prospects later on.
