I don't know. They paid less than that for May. If they are up to spend that kind of money, my guess would be that he would also be a SP.

I was hoping they would bring him on for a year. I would be nice to go into the central with the best bullpen.

I was looking at him as a 2026 version of Maton. He would have been a good mentor for our young bullpeners, and a possible trade piece at the deadline, 13 mil was beyond DeWitt’s puke point I’d guess. I admit to not knowing a lot about Fairbanks but his 2025 numbers were impressive.
I’m sure he’s worth the $13M but very surprised the Marlins shelled that out.
Any team could use a late inning arm like that but considering how the 2026 season is shaping up it would make more sense to put $13M toward another SP or a bat.
Cards don’t have the luxury of going after a closer.
Use Svanson, O’Brien, whoever?
