So if we play GM and to Mel’s point the Bosox have the best offer on the table for BD - realistically who would be included in that trade?
(Good point about concerns with Bello’s late season fade)
I would be concerned if the Cards trade Donovan to Boston. Perhaps the Red Sox make the best offer. But, it also strongly suggests that Bloom has a preference for players he drafted which probably means he is over valuing those players compared to other players. The first two deals may turn out great. But, adding talent from various organizations makes more sense. Do we really think that moving the Red Sox farm system over to us is going to make us champions? If it was that easy, Boston would just keep them. A third trade with Boston is a huge red flag for me.

My guess is Boston was interested in Donovan but settled for Contreras.
If Bloom only trades with Boston then we have a major problem.
Why is that?
Bloom knows that system inside and out, and has a hand in the development of many of the players.
Makes sense to me.
It would indicate he has no idea about the prospects of 28 MLB teams. That's a major problem. He has never been out of professional baseball for 20 years.

And what if Boston made the best offer for Grau, and then for Contreras, and does so with Donovan as well?
Would that be a major problem?
I suppose that's not impossible but if it were to happen a more plausible explanation would be he was aloof and not paying close attention to scouting reports and is only familiar with Boston's prospects.
We'll see what happens. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt so far.

Blaze Jordan and Hunter Dobbins are the only two players in the three deals we’ve made with them who have any connection with Bloom.

That seems like a major stretch. Only Blaze Jordan and Hunter Dobbins have any connection to Bloom out of the three trades that we’ve made with Boston and Bloom wasn’t in charge when they traded for Blaze.

Give me Kyson Witherspoon and Payton Tolle or Marcus Phillip and I make that deal. I'm big on Kyson's talent.
from that article I linked above:
Witherspoon is also expected to be big league ready soon, with an MLB debut in the cards late in 2026 if all goes right, or far more likely in early 2027.

I get it is a stretch but they just gave up a higher ranked prospect for Oveido than Witherspoon (though I would take Witherspoon over the player for Oveido). If they want to throw in Phillip instead of Tolle, I'm fine with it, but got to give to get.
Making 3 separate trades with the same team would certainly be odd but you really can’t complain about either of the first two trades with Boston.
We moved two veteran players with NTC and are making 75 million dollars over the next two years for 5 pitchers and us paying down 28 million of the 75 million owed. We saved 47 million dollars, picked up 2 starting pitchers to replace Mikolas and Pallante, added a pitcher who slots into our top 10 prospects and two more who fit into our lower minors with some potential.
As 2025 ended if you would have told us that we would be able to get out from under those two contracts and actually have gains, many would have thought that would be impossible. Many didn’t think Contreras would be moving at all. The fact that Boston ended up with both, I really don’t care. We will never know what anyone else ever offered or if anyone else even offered anything. Just look at the end results. The Cardinals are in a better place today than they were at the end of the season.
If the hypothetical scenario of Boston ending up with Donovan in a third trade and we end up with Witherspoon +, would that be so bad? Sloan from Seattle has been mentioned but Seattle doesn’t seem inclined. Lagrange from NY has been suggested but I think Witherspoon is a better option. SF doesn’t have a pitching prospect close. If Ethridge is available then we can discuss that. Bubic and Cameron from KC have been mentioned but they’re not as attractive to me.
The point is that if Boston makes the best offer, who gives a rats behind. Just take the best offer. IF we could add more pitching with the Donovan trade, we could really concentrate on fixing the outfield situation and find a productive 3B with the payroll savings.

Plus 1,000,000!!!
said the same thing in the other thread...then saw you said it here first
Tip my cap to you!!!
5 pitch MLB ready selection from Kyson...I'm rarely for fast moving pitchers...but I'd let him get a taste of AA for 4 or 5 starts, then serious promotion to Memphis....from there, I wouldn't hold him back...if he succeeds there come ASB, then promote to the majors....we should've traded May by then
