MLB isn't letting the Cardinals move out of the St. Louis metropolitan area.

I live in St Charles county and still like the Cardinals. My niece lives in Arkansas and still likes the Cardinals. Hey guess what, the 49ers don’t play in SF anymore either. And both NY football teams play in Jersey.

I don't think the Cardinals are moving. I have mixed feelings about the Chiefs moving. There is some prestige to our state to have a team. But, I rarely go to KC, so it doesn't directly impact me. To some degree, I am happy MO is not footing the bill.

And that is what is used to get it moved ...a once thriving city...a city continuing to decline in population...declining attendance so on and so on....I couldn't imagine if the cards were moved to Nashville...but i dont think anybody needs to worry about that ever happening....hope not!WaltsSuccessor wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 21:29 pmSt. Louis to me means the Greater St. Louis Area, not the tiny 66 sq miles, under 300k population city boundary.CCard wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 21:15 pmYour cool with teams abandoning their cities that they've played in for a long time. You win my poorly worded challenge. I meant nobody knows anyone [still alive] that knew anybody back then. Yes im assuming your grandparents are no longer with us, apologies if that’s incorrect. If so, you win either way!ICCFIM2 wrote: ↑23 Dec 2025 01:23 amOh come on that challenge is easy. My grandparents were born between 1906 and 1910. And my nobody was intended for people here on CardsTalk, not the global population. I’m sure there are a tiny percentage of people on earth that would still fit that criteria.
General point was…the Civil War was forever ago. Fun for sports rivalries. Silly for holding actual grudges still. It’s a non factor regarding the Chiefs relocating.

Since 1980, football has seen the Colts, Cardinals, Rams x 2, Oilers, Raiders x 3, Chargers, and Browns <---> Ravens switch cities for the promise of something financially bigger.
In that same time frame, you've had Montreal become the Nationals & the Oakland As will become the Las Vegas As in a couple of years.
I think it safe to suggest the STL Cardinals aren't going anywhere.

I don’t know the answer to this. How much personal investment do the Dewitt’s have in all the surrounding development around the stadium and St Louis area?
Regardless a lot has been invested. I don’t see them ever moving.

Move to Illinois??? Thanks for the laugh this morning. Illinois is anti-business.CCard wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 20:50 pm It's only a matter of time. Sports teams have no loyalty. The Cardinals own their stadium and Ballpark Village (subsidized with tax breaks). They aren’t going to move to rent a publicly financed stadium. That’s why you don’t publicly finance a stadium in the first place.

Nashville Fast‑growing metro, strong baseball culture, active MLB expansion campaign MLB likely prefers Nashville

Not going to happen.
Yeah, Nashville is growing, but it's still only the 35th largest market in the country (St. Louis is 23rd). Nashville metro population still 700,000 less than St. Louis. I don't see how the franchise moving from St. Louis to Nashville makes any sense at all.
Also, IMO, Nashville is overrated. It's a fine weekend trip, but unless you're really into country music and loud bars, it doesn't offer much else.

Illinois has a higher GDP than Missouri. In 2024, Illinois had a GDP of approximately $1.08 trillion, while Missouri's GDP was around $72.1 billion. You need to read more and get off of Fox News.Voldemort wrote: ↑23 Dec 2025 08:22 amMove to Illinois??? Thanks for the laugh this morning.
