No longer speculating. Willy is long gone. Who takes first.

Burleson. Player without a home. Bet he makes a big move to first.

Herrera. He ain’t a catcher. I’d like to see him try left.

Gorman. Third base ain’t it.

Three candidates.
Burleson will be the main guy. I’m hoping the Gorman experiment is over and he is gone.

I’m not sure IH could handle first.
As a former catcher, picking short hops in the dirt should help. No problem with arm on infield.

What do you think of Herrera in left.
On the short hops not sure the same. Catcher is in blocking position or should be. 1st base is relying totally on glove.

Left field sure but when he played outfield he did not look natural to me. But he could be adequate probably.
So far, we say he can’t catch, cant play first, or left. Is Herrera our first true blue DH.

Seems many first baseman were lefty. That glove covers the hole, but makes the line a back hand play. Thoughts.
First base is a much more difficult position than most believe. Not having an adequate first baseman can be miserable. The Cardinals have been in that position before. I had doubts about moving WC to first but he was actually very good at the position.

IH in the position???? We would have to see.

I like the glove on the left hand for better angle on runner leading off first.
Also a lefty doesn’t recieve the throw over from the pitcher as gracefully as a righty.

As for first being hard- i polled the board. First was easiest on the infield, and battled left field for easier position on the field.
I agree easiest but does not mean it’s easy to play especially at a high level.

Might be. I don’t think he is a catcher and I’m concerned about push to move him back there. Hopefully I’m proved wrong.

I agree. Plus on the job training, and maybe an inferior third baseman. Could be an adventure.

Even though Burly isn’t great in the OF I think, from the little we saw, Harrera might be worse. So I would tell Herrera to prepare to play 1B DH and C. I wouldn’t be surprised if Walker starts season in AAA to get the development he should have gotten in the past. I still expect Donovan and Arenado to be traded. So your opening day lineup looks something like this:
C Pages
1B Herrera Burly
2B JW
SS Winn
3B Gorman
LF Church
CF Scott
RF Noot
DH Burly Herrera
Bench
Crooks
Fermin
Sagesse
Koperniak

There were a lot of RH first baseman as well. Left handed first baseman weren't there for any advantage. If a LH kid wasnt built for the outfield, or pitching, they had one choice. Learn how to play first. Nothing more, nothing less. No science involved.

Throw Walker in there too.
Sure...anyone else who doesn't or hasn't played 1b?

Laughable to believe you can just plug in anyone who hasn't shown a competence to play anywhere in the field, at 1b.

Looking at JW (who says he should even be on the roster?!) and Ivan.

1b touches the ball way too much to take this so lightly.

yes, LH throwing 1bmen are preferable for several reasons.

Since you tout the level of importance, who do you put on first. And. If. You had only two choices for first would it be Herrera or JW if they were your only option.

Bumbles or KKorn. The only ones who have played there. Pretty simple. I have no faith in Kkorns hitting so it would be Bumbles.

Indeed.
And you have them ranked in the correct order.
As of today.
Remains to be seen, with several moves remaining.
Very, very good chance Bloom pulled the trigger with Contreras already knowing what he has lined up with a Donovan deal.

I think it will be:

C - Herrera
1B - Burleson
2B - Wetherholt
SS - WInn
3B - Gorman

Lol...8 games 4 years ago in Panama. 8 games since age 17

Fantastic. Let's put him at 1b while he pursues reclaiming and focusing on being a catcher.
