This is about moving Herrera to 1B.
Probably more Burleson to first
Burleson can already play first.
This is about adding a RH to the mix in replacement of Herrera.
Unless, of course, the Donovan deal is done and yet another 1B is headed to STL.

Hopefully it’s an OFer or 3B like Colt Emerson.

Just don’t call this a salary dump
This team may have 80mil payroll next season…..but its not a salary dump

We’ve gotten back FINE middling prospects
We’re rebuilding
“What can you expect from players that NOONE wants and don’t have much value”….”these middling prospects are all we could EVER expect to get in return……but we’re “rebuilding”

Let’s see…..start with more expensive middling talent……trade for cheap younger middling talent…..some posters think that’s “rebuilding”
At some point elite talent will need to be acquired, can someone let me know how that will be accomplished?

I clearly see the salary dumping portion of this rebuild I just don’t see the young Elite talent acquisition part of this rebuild

Love this deal, particularly Fajardo. When you can cherry pick an international player after they show 2 or 3 seasons of performance, it sure beats the total crapshoot of the usual system of drafting internationally. This seems like a great way to stock the lower minors with some needed arms, especially as the upper minors are pretty full. Keep em comin!

When do you expect this “rebuild” to be complete? Just curious, how low will payroll have to go so we can safely call this a Salary Dump exercise?

If it was just a dump they wouldn’t have paid the money they did to get the prospects back they did. Bloom said Dewitt agreed to kick in more money to get better returns for players traded they did that if it was just salary dumps they would have got nothing in return and paid a lot less. If they were just dumping salary they definitely wouldn’t have signed may for 12 million or sign the other players they will definitely sign before the offseason is over. The rebuild I figure will be completed and Cards back in it in 2028 but with how bloom is going about it stockpiling starters so they aren’t stuck running the same terrible starters out there start after start like last season because they had no depth it could be sooner

Older, relatively highly paid vets have no home in a rebuild. It's that simple. Call it what you like, he had to go.

Correct and I said this last year……if this was the end game it should’ve been initiated LAST offseason instead of ASKING if these guys wanted to stay.
The time wasted by this ownership…….

Listening and reading what BoSox fans are saying. Prospect followers are unhappy with dealing Fajardo. Just turned 19 and at 6’3” hitting 97 with control. The other minor league pitcher also has some upside. The key is to build up the minor league pipeline with pitching prospects as the more you get the greater the odds several develop into good mlb pitchers.
That is the way you have to go unless you are a major market team that can spend over $100 million on a good starter.

I just read where Dobbins won’t be ready by Spring. He will still be rehabilitating his 2nd torn ACL. In that report it also stated hes already had Tommy John surgery. Bloom has stated he is seeking an innings eating starter, so evidently at least one more starter is still to be acquired.
