Baseball players on the bubble of being traded
I bet it is difficult this time of the year. Waiting, waiting and waiting.

No issue. It’s just a bit more in depth. Just musings as to why nothing much happens from now thru January 5 th.OldRed wrote: ↑20 Dec 2025 09:21 amSorry, I didn't, but I will. Years ago, 1995 we were staying on Kauai (Kawaii Island) and on the 23rd of December the Cardinals signed Andy benes and Ron Gant as free agents. I didn't think so at the time, but I guess that was very unusual timing.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑20 Dec 2025 09:24 amNo issue. It’s just a bit more in depth. I’m sure it happens. I was just thinking about why it wouldn’t happen, more humanitarian that business.OldRed wrote: ↑20 Dec 2025 09:38 amYears ago, 1995 we were staying on Kauai (Kawaii Island) and on the 23rd of December the Cardinals signed Andy benes and Ron Gant as free agents. I’m sure it can be a little difficult.
If I were one of these players, I would remind myself how lucky I am not to be a career minor leaguer or a current FA just wishing for a non roster invite to spring training.
Re: Baseball players on the bubble of being traded
Players families want to know ASAP what city team they will be traded to as first off new spring training accomodations in a new location. May even switch from Florida to Arizona.
Then securing apartment or house rental for season ad they seek a permanent place. Also most likely putting their current house up for sale.
Lot to do.
You may go from sunny Southern California to Detroit, Michigan.
Forget having your backyard in ground swimming pool lol

Last year when the Blues signed Jim Montgomery as coach it was on Nov. 24th. I remember he stated his family would stay in Boston until the end of the season. His kids were comfortable with their school and activities to uproot them at that time. I would imagine it would be the same for baseball players.

Any move at that level is taxing. Take into consideration the amount of moves, then the timing. Cold dark winter. Who knows, maybe you even like the place you got.OldRed wrote: ↑20 Dec 2025 10:28 amI know I would.ramfandan wrote: ↑20 Dec 2025 10:23 am Players families want to know ASAP what city team they will be traded to as first off new spring training accomodations in a new location. I'm sure the millions of dollars in their bank accounts help them get through.

I had a couple of times when I was still in the military where we got deployed on maybe a week's notice? We got told to pack our [shirt] and wait for the call, if and when it comes. And when you get the call, you go. Same thing with your regular assignments. You may be enjoying your time stationed in Hawaii, then next thing you know you get orders to North Dakota, and you're stuck there for God knows how long.
Those things would have been much easier to handle if I was making millions.

And like the military I bet the Cardinals have a housing and transportation department. The added burden of a major move during holidays just fills more an otherwise loaded plate.Ronnie Dobbs wrote: ↑21 Dec 2025 08:37 am I had a couple of times when I was still in the military where we got deployed on maybe a week's notice? Don't "discount" just how difficult it can be this time of the year - waiting, waiting and waiting for those new millions.mattmitchl44 wrote: ↑21 Dec 2025 08:21 am I'm sure the millions of dollars in their bank accounts help them get through.
Thank goodness the dollars give them the strength to endure.
Fact is, regardless of what one does for a living, money does indeed make life easier and more enjoyable.

Sounds like Air Force Ronnie, Navy was a little different as we were assigned a ship. We spent a lot of time on cruises varying from two weeks to six months. Some Vietnam deployments lasted a full year, but I was on the east coast and only deployed to the North Atlantic and the Med.Ronnie Dobbs wrote: ↑21 Dec 2025 08:37 am I had a couple of times when I was still in the military where we got deployed on maybe a week's notice?
