The more I think about it, Chase makes sense.

QB coach possibly and that is a big stretch.
He needs to cut his teeth as an Analyst first
How willing will he be to go on the road an do the dirty work

Don't agree. I would with any other potential candidate with no experience. But Daniel has spent the last 14 years working with the best coordinators in football in the NFL He's also smart as a whip.

Re: Chase for OC
I am all for getting Daniel involved with the Mizzou program if he has interest. Making his first coaching job as a coordinator in the SEC is a big step. I wonder if he would be interested in a QB coaching role for a year or two as he cuts his teeth on the demands of the coaching world.
I have zero doubt that he would be successful as a coordinator if he wanted to but there is a lot more to it than just calling plays.

Re: Chase for OC
Odd. The more I think about hiring someone who has never held a coaching position in organized football to run Mizzou’s offense in a crucial season where the schedule ramps up the more I think it’s a recipe for disaster. To say nothing of the fact that the person in question is a school icon who has a reputation I would hate to see tarnished.edwin drood wrote: ↑16 Dec 2025 13:21 pm The more I think about it, Chase makes sense.

Oh wait, it’s the Nebraska guy. Never mind.
Hey maybe Nebraska will re-hire Scott Frost? No wait that isn’t as funny because that suggestion still makes more sense the OP.
Re: Chase for OC
You nailed it. Nebraska Drood is what he is. I like Chase but there is zero chance that he's ready to take on this position.Barksdale's People wrote: ↑16 Dec 2025 16:37 pmOdd. Re: Chase for OC
Drink said no training wheels in the SEC - need battle scars. Chase has a way to go to qualify for OC.
Re: Chase for OC
J-Mac has been the head coach at Kirkwood since 2021, and he's taken them to the semifinals the last 2. He doesn't have all the D1 and 2 talent a lot of the other top schools have, but he capitalizes on maximizing potential, discipline and fundamentals. He might be a better fit, but he's got a pretty good thing going in his hometown.Barksdale's People wrote: ↑16 Dec 2025 16:37 pmOdd. Re: Chase for OC
Hear me out. Chase could potentially be a fantastic coordinator and get the passing game going because he QB’d one of the best offenses in the country. He didn’t get a ton of reps in the NFL but he surely absorbed a ton.
What he was best at, even more than passing, was reading defenses. He was great at it. The hardest thing about being an offensive coordinator is reading defenses and making quick decisions. Knowing how to exploit and attack the defense as the game progresses. I’m not saying it’s a slam dunk, but I think he could possibly be great at it. He’s a great communicator too.
And he’d probably be great at working with QB’s.

Re: Chase for OC
Hire a real OC with SEC experience and then hire Chase to be the QB coach. He was highly thought of by players like Brees who praised his film study.

Re: Chase for OC
And who would that be? And, why are they no longer an OC in the SEC? Drink can continue to interview fired D1 candidates and OC's with no big time experience.

Re: Chase for OC
Chase would be awesome but it would be dangerous for Drink because Chase has a very strong reputation around these parts and if things don’t work out, he could risk unmasking the structural weaknesses of Drink’s coaching and offensive strategies. Piercing the veil, so to speak. So my vote is a strong yes but I think there’s a less than 2 percent chance.
If a candidate comes in and says, I want to significantly change up the offense to open up the passing game, Drink may not want the person. He’s a run guy and will probably want a lot of say in how his offense is structure, that is, a systems-aligned coordinator. Moore, my guess, has never been that and will have a very different offense than he had at Mizzou with the freedom of decision-making, particularly if he is a Deboer/high-octane offense kind of guy which Drink is not. Whoever the person is, they will inherit a strong running offense and, being kind, a work-in-progress passing offense. Hopefully the guy can attract some stud receivers from the portal (since we are losing nearly all of ours).

Why not Brad Smith, or Franklin, or Gabbert. They can keep the seat warm for Drew Lock. Take the black and gold lens glasses off folks.

Re: Chase for OC
Chase isn’t my 1st choice, only because he’s unproven. But if you’ve ever listened to him break down film, and you recall how awesome he was at reading defenses, you wouldn’t think the idea was crazy.
That said there is a list of really good proven OC’s who we are hopefully pursuing.

Re: Chase for OC
Who do you think called the plays when he played there? Yost? Christianson? Pinkel? It was Daniel. He audibled almost every play. As an NFL backup, he spent most of the time on the headset.
No matter who it is, the OC will be running Drink’s offense. Drink is an offensive coach. That’s his background and that’s why he was hired. The new OC might add tweak or two, and he’ll call the plays, but they’ll be the plays and game plan that Drink wants.
