How different would we feel about this team…
…if they had won just 3-4 of 8 overtime games? They would be in playoff position. And that is with a lot of bad goaltending. Would we be feeling much more positive?
Re: How different would we feel about this team…
Sure. More the merrier. Hard to get too serious until the wins exceed the regulation losses.
Re: How different would we feel about this team…
They aren't all that far away imo. This slide is probably good for us. Team is playing decent. Getting to see Dvorsky, Stenberg, others is good. They did lose those games so it's hard to think different.
Re: How different would we feel about this team…
It would mean something, but if all the other stats were the same it would still be a long way from everything.
The Blues need to start winning more games for sure but in meaningful ways....increased goal scoring, special team performances and consistent goal tending. And all the things required to do that.
Would have loved that W last night as a start. It has to start somewhere.

Flip side: how different would we feel about this team if they hadn't won a Cup six years ago?

Honestly, not much different. They are still not a good team.
Unfortunately, they’d still probably be at the bottom of the league in GA (123, next closest is 119), and would be bottom 5 in goals Scored (currently third lowest at 88, with Nashville at #7 w/91 GF in three less Games)

No. The record isnt the reason im not into it. Even when the team was healthy there just wasnt much excitement.
I am goad that some of the young guys are getting a chance/taste. If we play the youngsters and we move up the standings then i have nothing to complain about. But i am so tired of tryibg to catch lightning in a bottle with fabbri and berggren. Reminds me of vrana and kap.
I would have more fun calling a rebuild and watching a young team learn their way as opposed to this hope and prayer stuff.

This team is averaging 2.44 goals per game. Is that good?
Bad soccer teams score more. I've never seen a worse Blues team for scoring. Not one double digit goal scorer.
And the worst goal differential in the league by a long shot? Is that good?

No offense but I hate these arguments.
Good teams survive the ups and downs of luck, momentum, whatever you want to call it. Bad teams get buried by luck.
The blues are a bad team.
Draw out whatever conclusions you want about the circumstances, but the fact of the matter is this team put themselves exactly in situations where luck, bounces, injuries, momentum, refs, insert whatever, was insurmountable.

Wouldn’t feel any different, simply because of the eye test. They lack game changers, they lack speed, and most of all, they lack tenacity and grit. I’ve never seen a softer Blues team in my 45 years of watching/listening Blues hockey.
Re: How different would we feel about this team…
Yeah, I get your point, and it has some merit.
But — and I'm a Blues homer, by admission — many of the wins seem to be reaches, rather than expected.
The league-worse team +/- illustrates that.

We aren’t doing a hypothetical of some games where they could have easily won if they got that save or didn’t hit that post, ext. We are doing a hypothetical on a still very new way to award the very important extra point that has been available when there is a tie after 3 periods of play.WilliamWestcliffe wrote: ↑19 Dec 2025 16:32 pm No offense but I hate these arguments.

We of course know that there used to be a tie with 1 point each up until around 2000 (I think). First there was 4 on 4, then they added the SO after there wasn’t enough goals. Then they added this 3 on 3 shatshow in the 2015-16 season. We are not even 10 years into this thing and it’s very clear it is not close to “real hockey”, especially with pass back/retreat and 2 line passes being allowed.
It’s very much ok to think of how we would feel if didn’t have a historically bad 0-8 start this season

You do realize FIVE of the 12 starting forwards are on IR, including HALF the top-6? They have to ice a team.Younghopp1991 wrote: ↑19 Dec 2025 16:07 pm No. The record isnt the reason im not into it. Even when the team was healthy there just wasnt much excitement.

Yes i realize that. Id rather the playing time go to people already in our organization. I dont know all the call up details but we have guys in springfield id prefer.DawgDad wrote: ↑19 Dec 2025 17:06 pmYou do realize FIVE of the 12 starting forwards are on IR, including HALF the top-6? No bc they would still be a mediocre at best, vet heavy cap team with zero elite players.
They have a real chance to unburden previous contract mistakes and missed rebuild opportunities by selling soon and drafting high. That is the big positive.

Re: How different would we feel about this team…
Goaltending was horrible for over half of the games the team played. Once team starts playing differently to make up for that it takes awhile to gain their confidence back. If they had even average goaltending they would probably be sitting in a playoff position.
