Positives
He is someone new. As a former Dodger, fans have heard of him. If they hope to draw any fans, they need several new names.
He is supposedly healthy this offseason. Maybe he can regain his lost velocity, be better than last year, and stay healthy. Long shot.
If he's good and falls in love with STL, maybe they can extend him at a hometown discount. Don't count on it.
Maybe he's just holding a spot for the law firm of Hence, Hjerpe, and Roby.
Negatives
He's pitched over 56 innings in a a season one time and was not effective in that one season (last year).
They really paid him $12M? overpay. If he's bad, it was a waste of resources. If he's great, he's gone.

Re: Dustin May
There’s articles saying the cardinals are still looking to sign another veteran starting pitcher so I think this is his gamble which I think is great because if he’s good you trade him at the deadline for prospects and if he’s bad who cares it’s just one year and he’s going to pick up another veteran starter who is less of a gamble but probably doesn’t have as high of an upsidecardstatman wrote: ↑19 Dec 2025 09:31 am Positives

Re: Dustin May
One (hopefully) positive thing is that he had his arm surgeries in 2021 and 2023. The esophagus thing in 2024 was a freak thing that almost killed him. At least you can hope that the arm is fully recovered now. And maybe he was not so great last year because he was still healing from something that (bleep) near killed him. So maybe being positive on him this year is not so crazy. He has been good when healthy.cardstatman wrote: ↑19 Dec 2025 09:31 am Positives

I am not sure I would bet a lot of money that he will stay healthy this year, but I am more positive on him actually being good. The talent is definitely there.
