Berggren needs to continue to play with pace and skill all over the ice if he can do that for more than a week then the Blues will have some tough decisions. Stenberg isnt likely to be going back so...

Walker
Joseph
Fabbri

one or two of these guys may be looking at a change of scenery

Berggren was one of the best players on the ice, and it wasn't even close...dude was in on everything every shift in every zone, winning board battles, setting up scoring opportunities, etc. I'm not a big fan of Joseph, never been, so he's gone. The other is obviously Stenberg since he needs to play and will be here next season...no reason to keep him around now. I think Torop's days are numbered as well. Walker and Bjugstad might have to fight for ice time. I keep Berggren, I keep Fabbri, I keep Dvorsky

Dvorsky and Stenberg are here, may as well factor them into your line ups. Monty put Stenberg on a PK in a tight game right out of the gate, kid played impressively. ONE of the Blues biggest issues is lack of skill, speed and intensity Stenberg can bring that in every phase of the game. My guess is Fabbri and Joseph may be on the move. I like Joseph's speed and hustle but the Blues dont need BOTH Joseph and Torop they are the same player

It’s a very good question, but given how this season has gone so far, I fully expect several other injuries to occur before they need to make those decisions!

The decision may not be as tough as it appears. Trades and additional injuries…

I actually keep Joseph over Torp. At least he doesn’t need a map to find the score sheet.

*Neighbours Thomas Buchnevich
Holloway Schenn Kyrou
Suter Dvorsky *Snuggerud
Toropchenko Sundqvist Bjugstad

Walker
Joseph
Berggren
Fabbri
Stenberg

First, all these guys aren't going to be healthy at the same time for quite a while, if ever.

Likely lean to the big, mobile, heavy guys on the 4th line. Walker is a proven asset there, too. Joseph's speed and versatility keeps him around, his lack of finishing skills hangs around his neck. IMHO Toropchenko is ahead of him in terms of consistently starting on a 4th line.

Stenberg is demotable. He needs to BE demoted unless he takes a starters job. Could happen but more likely next season. If he starts scoring goals, and killing penalties, and playing plus hockey . . .

Berggren is similar, waivable vs demotable. He's after Joseph's job or Fabbri's if starters remain injured. Looks like a temp until he isn't.

Fabbri - I don't see a future for him here beyond the current wave of injuries. The memories of the way we were sticks, or something to that effect, but then there's the reality of now. Wish him well. Wish all these guys well.

There are bottom six assets here that could be traded. Not sure what the return would be considering Berggren is waiver fodder.

Who actually goes depends on whether they're playing to win games or reset the roster. My preference would be to reset the roster if you can (the dreaded "tank").

Torpo-Joseph-Walker all fill the same role. Torpo is a UFA (I think), Joseph has the highest cap hit, and Walker is probably the best of the three at dragging the team into the fight. You only need one or two of those guys, so at least one is expendable.

I'm with Harry - don't send the kids back so long as they don't look overmatched and Monty is using them. Dvorsky has looked good, really good in flashes. Stenberg had a solid start. I make room to keep both and live with any growing pains.

Berggren and Fabbri have most recently been castaways. Both have looked good to start, but there's a reason most castaways don't turn into difference makers. Does Fabbri have a full season left in the tank? Can Berggren put together a consistent stretch of games? Would keeping either block Dvorsky or Stenberg from playing in the top 6 or top 9 with special teams?

Bjugstad just hasn't impressed me. He might be slower than Maroon - and he wasn't trying to be a center.

My guess, just based on UFA status and needing to stockpile some assets. And trades take longer, sooooo…..assuming no other injuries:

1) Stenberg goes first - probably when Kyrou is activated because it’s no risk of losing someone on waivers and he can be called back up later
2) Fabbri sent down - won’t get claimed
3) Joseph traded at TDL - will have some value as a 12-13th forward for a playoff team. We might need to retain 50%
4) Sunny traded at TDL - Monty loves him, Army has no loyalty.
5) Torpo - signed for 2-3 years. Hands of stone, but has size this team totally lacks and can skate.

I could be dead wrong on all 4 scenarios, but these are the fun forum threads to me.

Edit: Looked at Puckpedia and didn’t realize we were only carrying 22/23 roster players, with all the IR designees. And Luff is still here as one of the 22. So my guess is Luff goes first when BJug and Kyrou return, as that puts us back at 23 and the other injuries are still a ways off, so the rest of the guys stay. If Stenberg doesn’t continue to get good minutes, he’ll still be the first to go back as they don’t want him in the press box.

I missed Luff. He's deep depth, back to the A or the wire.

I only disagree on Sunny. He NEEDS to stay. I realize Army traded him but I don't think he would again. Unless some team drops a 1st?

Stenberg has the potential to knock guys off the team. In time. He would need to be near perfect right now to hang if ALL the injured guys come back. But they aren't coming back anytime soon, so he might get some games.

Unfortunately, we have a few weeks to gather more observations before we have to decide. Fortunately (actually unfortunately) we have a fairly long list to pick from to decide. And many with varying degrees of pluses vs minuses. There is something about Walker that leads me to he should be around on the roster, whether in the lineup, or not. But I'm not driving a hard stake for anything right now. For fourth line guys, size is factor, but not if that is the only, or major thing they bring.
I have thoughts, but I'll hold the rest of my precise opinions for now.

Luff is in for Fabbri which is not a good sign for Robby Fabbri going forward. I didnt notice Fabbri much last night and didnt feel like that was a good thing vs not noticing Mailloux. Stenberg still top 6 RW tonight his game will grow Luff, Fabbri, Joseph will be sweating it

I would start moving on from the old leadership core and bring on the youth.

Schenn and Faulk go in trades.

Joseph is traded or contract term’d, etc.

Listen to offers on Kyrou, Binnington and Parayko but only make deals where it improves the organization now and future.

To me, it’s whoever is making the most impact and passes the eye test over the next bit. If they don’t pass eye test they shouldn’t be here

Kyrou skated on his own today, he'll be back during the first week of January so more than likely Luff goes down. Then its probably Bjugstad coming back next it will start to get a little more interesting. I dont like Fabbri's outlook, sucks for him but im guessing he would be the next victim.
Snuggerud skated today as well but after surgery he will be likely be 6 weeks, same with Holloway. Unsure about Walker sounded like a shoulder to me, 8 weeks.

If Kyrou used his down time wisely, he will be the major asset that he has shown to be in flashes.
If he plays pansy, stupid hockey… he needs to be moved for any 20 goal scorer that knows playoff hockey.
