Alexey Toropchenko on the trade block and his market?

Post by blackinkbiz »

101ESPN just said they think Torop is the first to be traded because BK and Ferrario, apparently, think he's the most expendable and easily replaced.

If I were a GM, and the Blues truly view Torop as nothing more than a 4th-line winger, I'd be all over trying to get this kid.

Turned 26 this summer, has already proven he's a capable goal scorer if given the opportunity, and has the rare combination of speed, size, agility, and ability. IMO he undoubtedly has 3rd-line capability (and potentially higher) so I'd hate to see him given away for nothing but a JAG 4th-liner in return.

I also think he has potential. Does not have the skills to be a top guy maybe but he should be top 9. Why trade him for another similar guy or a middling pick?

Tend to agree plus I believe Monty is in his corner as well.

I take zero stock in that radio chat on this one about some kind of lateral or downgrade move.

Well that will get the boys fired up to play …good lord. He’s worth more to us than the 6th round pick we will get back

Jesus Christ, if you are going to trade people dont trade your 4th liners. What does that accomplish?

The fact that those guys were even talking about it is reason enough not to listen to that show. I like Toropchenko, but trading him doesn’t move the needle at all, so why even bring it up.

I'm starting to think Toropchenko might be the most overrated player to have ever worn the Bluenote...

The kid goes all out all the time. His type of play is not in the relm of the Blues problems. Keep him or you'll be sorry'er.

Why would there even have to be a conversation about trading Toropchenko. He’s a 4th liner who whether he’s here or not, just doesn’t move the needle.

The conversations we should be having are in moving Schenn, Faulk, possibly Kyrou, maybe Binnington. Those conversations might move the needle but Toropchenko? Heck, maybe the boys on 101 can see what Luff or McGing can bring. P

Sports radio in general is some of the least entertaining information possible but these guys take it to a new level.

I haven't seen anything here overrating him. The comments are reasonable that he would bring a nothing return, so why trade him? Cut salary? He has a ceiling of top 9. Agreed.

UFA at end of season, 1.7 million cap this year.

Hard to see Blues trading forwards any time soon, especially for picks, with so many out.

I think he's one of the most underrated. If you put him on a line with real skill, I could easily see Torop being a 20G/20A player.

I'm surprised he hasn't gotten more of any opportunity to prove this. If you packaged him with Schenn, perhaps they'd get a real prospect in return.

Lol, huh?!?!?!?! They have tried Torop on other lines he lacks any kind of puck skill. 20 goals?? Wow

You can easily see why he’s not scoring. The season when he scored 14 he shot the puck. He’s not shooting the puck. He’s just doing cardio and cycle plays. I think if he was able to score 14 goals as a 4th liner 2 seasons ago then one would think that he could do it today still….

I would like to see him on the 3rd line as the defacto LW. He has the size and the speed. It’s just for whatever reason (and I don’t know if this is coaching a mindset into him or whatever) but he needs to be the shooter on his line… not the setup guy or cycle guy.

He has the rare combination of size and speed. 81st percentile. He can fly for as big as he is. And hit.

He just has trouble finishing (shooting % = 7.7%). He needs to work on that.

Until then, not sure those phones will be ringing for him.
