I thought it was not perfect but pretty great. Josh O'Connor is amazing. Thematically the movie is much weightier and emotional than the previous installments, which I enjoyed a lot. It felt more substantial.
The main flaw is that there's a point in the movie where the mystery becomes so convoluted that there's really no way any viewer can guess what's going on. Feels manipulative when a mystery leaves you totally unmoored like that, the best ones always give you a chance.
Anyway O'Connor would get my vote for a Best Actor nod. A true star making turn.

Story and star power in this version matches up with the first installment. FAR superior to the second one - which was forgettable.3dender wrote: ↑13 Dec 2025 21:39 pm I thought it was not perfect but pretty great. Josh O'Connor is amazing. I agree with you on O'Connor. He was really good in this. Overall, I really enjoyed it.

I agree with everything said here. I liked the more serious, gothic tone, but that's all the more reason to make the plot less silly.3dender wrote: ↑13 Dec 2025 21:39 pm I thought it was not perfect but pretty great. I don't mind when mysteries of this kind are too twisty to figure out, but it still has to hang together in the end, or it ends up feeling thin and arbitrary. My general rule is that the Big Reveal shouldn't make me say "Wait...what?" more than twice, or else the twistiness is hurting the drama. I think I said "What what?" about 5 or 6 times.
But overall, very fun. I was hoping there might be a few more big moments for Glenn Close. It would be great to see her nominated for this.
