Wounds Consistent With A Knife

Rob Reiner -- the legendary director -- and his wife Michele Singer Reiner have died ... TMZ has learned.

Two dead bodies were found in Rob and Michele's Brentwood home Sunday afternoon -- and law enforcement sources tell us it is the Reiners.

Our sources say the two suffered lacerations consistent with a knife. The LAPD's Robbery Homicide Division is still investigating.

Michele and Rob had three kids together -- Jake, Nick and Romy. Rob also has a daughter, Tracy, from his first marriage to director Penny Marshall.

Rob was 78. Michele was 68.

Wife and I were literally just sitting here talking about this. Always liked him and - most of - his movies. Had a run in the eighties and nineties when he was one of the most prolific directors going. Always seemed like a pretty good guy too. Very sad.

I was thinking about it before bed, and it felt like it had to be more personal. Murder with a knife seemed very intimate, vs a home burglary w/a gun involved.

Mr. Reiner was a very gifted storyteller. Regardless of tone - be it a drama or a comedy - he knew how to make movies. He also knew how to spot exceptional source material.

Conan is having a weird moment. He was just last week telling the story about his fake feud with Jason Batemen...and how it's now a tradition that he doesn't invite Batemen to his big annual Christmas party.
