That is not actually what it comes down to. What it comes down to is the talent return in a trade. My point is that other teams may not be willing to return what Mo and others around here expect.Shady wrote: ↑14 Dec 2025 11:03 amIt comes down to how many teams are interested in pursuing Donovan. I saw it may be as many as half the MLB teams.BrockFloodMaris wrote: ↑13 Dec 2025 22:53 pmMo overvalued our talent for the last ten years. Some folks around here have caught the Mo bug. They are now doing it to.CrownRoyalCaramel wrote: ↑13 Dec 2025 22:32 pm
You may be the dumbest poster I have seen here and that is REALLY saying something.

It's possible he just wants out of St Louis and it's possible he has him convinced he's worth more than is possible.renostl wrote: ↑15 Dec 2025 20:07 pmSolid take.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑15 Dec 2025 19:17 pmWhy does he have to be someone to build around? He is a piece. A very good piece who we could rely on for years to come. The proposals I've seen thus far are underwhelming.TraveledLessRoad wrote: ↑15 Dec 2025 18:22 pmI apologize...I had his age incorrect. But, that's what we should be building around? a 28 year old second baseman with no power, a career .772 OPS and pretty bad splits? I'm sorry, but if this resembles a franchise cornerstone, we're absolutely effedScotchMIrish wrote: ↑15 Dec 2025 17:48 pmDonovan is 28 and is top 5 bat at 2B in MLB with a gold glove or were you talking about someone else?TraveledLessRoad wrote: ↑15 Dec 2025 17:20 pmThat's just not true. They aren't too cheap to sign him. They just sent $20mil to Boston in the Sonny trade. They're just aware that extending an above average utility player that was never considered a top-prospect, while entering his mid thirties, in the midst of a team re-build, is a dumb idea when they can maximize his return. It's called the "long-game."ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑15 Dec 2025 11:53 amThe reason for trading him is he was pitching hurt. Donovan is on the block because the Cardinals are too cheap to pay him. His numbers were good and he is healthy.Ronnie Dobbs wrote: ↑15 Dec 2025 08:52 amHave they expressed willingness to trade him?ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑15 Dec 2025 08:21 amThe team expressed willingness to trade him. Not a good sign.
Would it matter either way, though? Is it a bad sign for Donovan that the Cardinals have been very open about trading him?
Nootbar? Yes. Arenado? Yes. Donovan? No.
Are we sure that he doesn't want to test FA in the years to come?

Listening.
Negotiating.
Finding the offer STL likes best.
Not complicated.
Standard stuff.

I agree with you that he is a piece, who could be a very valuable piece on a good team. I disagree that some of the proposals on here have been underwhelming. If anything, I think some of them shoot too high. But in many of them posted here we are getting a player with the potential to be a star. I don't know about you, but trading a piece for a star would be very whelming.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑15 Dec 2025 19:17 pm Why does he have to be someone to build around? He is a piece. No offense, but why would you listen to anything those two guys have to say?Galatians221jb1 wrote: ↑15 Dec 2025 22:08 pm It’s getting very complicated

The key word is potential. Gorman and Walker were #1 prospects in the Cardinals organization at one time. Are they stars? I've seen Seattle and San Francisco are offering their #3 and #7 prospects. That's for our biggest trade piece. Donovan is a star. He was on the all star team in 2025.Ronnie Dobbs wrote: ↑16 Dec 2025 08:41 amI agree with you that he is a piece, who could be a very valuable piece on a good team. I don't see any stars being offered. I see potential MLB level players. Potential. Eldridge could be a solid power hitter but he turned 21 in September and was terrible when the Giants brought him up. Probably needs a couple more years in the minors.
