Should Fowler sit?
I’ll start out saying I think it has nothing to do with his contract. Every player wants to win.
However, Fowler just looks fatigued for whatever reason. He’s running around. He’s giving pucks and chances away.
We have Kessel on the sidelines. Let’s just give Fowler a break.

I don't know about that; but I'd like to see Parayko and Mailloux big shots on the P.P.
...take Fowler's P.P. spot. two birds with one stone.
Mailloux got his 1 sog on that last P.P. of the game. nice shot too.

Re: Should Fowler sit?
I'm not blaming this on Fowler. This is a team leadership problem.

Parayko has been invisible. I barely hear his name get mentioned during the games.

The trade for and subsequent extension of Fowler is proving to be one of the biggest wastes in Blues history....way to go Army!

He's basically ceded the #1 defenseman spot to Broberg this season.St. Charles Bronson wrote: ↑11 Dec 2025 22:09 pm Parayko has been invisible. I barely hear his name get mentioned during the games.

Montgomery knows way more about hockey than I ever will. But......This team has searched for a partner for Parayko since JBO broke down. They finally found one about 13 months ago. Fowler played fantastic and Parayko played the best hockey of his career. Now they are separated and neither are playing particularly well.
You do the math on that.

Re: Should Fowler sit?
There is no one individual player causing this team to play worse than they should. If there were, it would be pretty easy to pick him out. We are a mess right now and need to learn how to play together. Our boys are playing out of position too often. Maybe to help cover someone else, I don't know. But the player you pass to should be there to take the pass. Just like in practice. Repeat....repeat....repeat.

Re: Should Fowler sit?
I started this, so a few comments on the responses; it’s always a good discussion but we see things differently at times, I remember Monty starting the 1st part of the season with the young pairings together (Mailloux/Tucker or Kessel/Tucker). I think we may have even had one of our two game winning streaks when Kessel played -but that was before Mailloux’s return.
Thus, I am sure Parayko played with Fowler on & off as Monty got frustrated with the poor goaltending & poor play of forwards not doing their part in the D zone for so many games. Fowler is still a big minus 15. I would suggest Kessel would take the place of Fowler for a couple of games to rest & not keep spinning in his own zone shell shocked. Fowler was very good on the power-play last season. I wanted to make another couple of points, but I’ve kind of lost my train of thought. Well, let’s hope for a victory against Nashville and try to forget about who plays. And I still don’t think it’s the contract extension affecting his play. He came to his team trying to help it and it just seems so dysfunctional and disorganized in the defensive zone and it must be very frustrating for the players especially a veteran.

Re: Should Fowler sit?
Fowler is being tasked with babysitting the rookie. It's not Fowlers fault that Army overplayed his hand and didn't make sure we had a quality option to put on the 3rd pair. This team should be paired up where its Parayko/Fowler Broberg/faulk because those pairings were doing well. But because we didn't get an insurance guy to be the pairing with Mailloux, you have Broberg/Parayko as your number 1 unit, and the other 2 having to cover for subpar defense. you can live with 1 project. Tucker and Kessel have had 3 years at this and haven't made real consistent strides that carried over to the next season.
We were 1 person away from having a good defense. This isn't on Fowler.

Re: Should Fowler sit?
Sitting Fowler is not the solution as we need his veteran leadership, I for one like to see Tucker sit every night.
