Did you guys run off Gates' apologist here- can't believe he's not on here telling us that Drink lost four games this year, and Gates has only lost two. This team is coached even more poorly than K Anderson's bunch, just with a little more talent. Worst excuse for team defense than I've ever seen. Mike Anderson had forty minutes of hell- this is forty minutes of wtf. Trapping players 35 feet from the basket, only to leave wide-open 3 point shooters everywhere. Trouble on offensive glass versus a team we dwarfed in size.
Didn't learn their lesson after the ND game, and it appears they never will under Gates. Dickey Nutt had teams that played defense- not sure why he's not more involved in changing this "scheme" and fitting it to this team's abilities. Long season in the downgraded SEC if the switch isn't turned on very soon.

Yep, I thought after last season that it might be good if Crews moved on. Now, I'm really glad he didn't. When he doesn't take Grill-like "wild" off-balanced shots he's deadly.
We shot 71% in the first half which was a relief after the kU drought, but we were only 13 up. Was Bama St unconscious (they sure hit a bunch of 3's!) or do we play awful D? One of their 3's was from the mid-court logo. Hard to defense that.
Did Porter play at all? Braggin' Rights might not be much fun leading into Christmas. Do all of Ill-Annoy's players speak English or does Underwood's staff include interpreters?

I think the Braggin Rights game is going to be either a turning point, or an indicator of how the rest of the season will go. If we can win that game, it’ll show that this team can win against Sweet 16 type teams. If we aren’t competitive, it’ll be a nervous feeling starting conference. We’ll have to kill it to have a shot at the tourney.

Sadly, Crews is one of a few that can score, but defensively he is a black hole. If you watched last night his man was always open in the corner and they kept dropping threes from that spot. He is a three point specialist and energy guy, not much more. Right now he is our best option, the fact that he plays as much as he does is a testament to the poor recruiting of Gates, no way Crews should get big minutes.

"Outside of Mitchell, occasionally Robinson, and Crews, we have little offense."
Exactly what I said above. We are on the same page, Icon!

Did you listen to the basketball coach after Mizzou’s recent win over SIU? She sums it up perfectly. A win is a win but lots to work on.

What's he doing that's so bad?Lightning Rod wrote: ↑11 Dec 2025 19:02 pmI said last year if Crews got a lot of playing time this year we would be in trouble. Not even close.Lightning Rod wrote: ↑11 Dec 2025 18:35 pmYou could see Burns a bit tonight if it's a blowout, but don't get your hopes up that he will be anything but a bench warmer this year, he has a long to go. Boateng has not shown me he is ready either, some flashes, but mostly meh. If he's going to show something it will probably be against the Alabama States of the world. I expect to see Northweather a bit more tonight if Phillips continues to clog the middle and prevent Mitchell from getting to the bucket. Northweather will camp on the 3 point line where he is most effective.edwin drood wrote: ↑11 Dec 2025 17:13 pm7:00 pm Mizzou Arena

I'd like to see
More Burns, Boateng and Northweather
The following guys need to show something too:
Porter (What does he really contribute?) Mack (Figure out when to penetrate and stop chucking 3 balls.) Northweather (Is he anything more than a 3 loint shooter? If so, can we get more consistent?) Phillips Jr., (Can we please be a BIG MAN? And enough of the antics of the court already? More play, lwss talk.) Boateng (Has shown flashes. Can he figure out his role?) Barrett (Needs to be more of a distributor and spell Robinson effectively.)
I think overall, Gates needs to figure out what each guy does best and utilize them to their strengths. Right now it seems like a bunch of guys trying to "get mine" when they finally get court time.
Outside of Mitchell, occasionally Robinson, and Crews, we have little offense.
Lots of questions still and this team needs to gel....and quickly.
