Mizzou ladies Bragging Rights game

Post by Armchair QB »

Coming down the stretch, down 58-56 with 4 minutes to play in a game Mizzou has never led.

Lost by 8.

I’ll say this, we’re not as bad as I was afraid we’d be after that exhibition loss to Maryville. Illinois just a more complete team with superior size. We actually rebounded really well, but got bullied a little on the blocks and struggled to keep them from scoring down low. Illinois ladies a little taller but much thicker. Much taller in the case of their 6’7” big.

If Coach Harper can recruit some talented bigs and keep the athletic wings and guards, we could be good next year.

The game plan was good going up tempo - bothered IL, and the halftime adjustment good. Running sets for wide open 3 pt shots Q4 to experienced 3pt shooters and clank, clank, clank, clank in a row. RP didn't leave much for Harper. Harper is a good coach, you can see it. Will need to recruit better players from portal. Next year should be better I hope.

Yes, it wasn't bad, all things considered. We still have a problem with turnovers (18). We had such a slow start & was never able to catch up. Got it close several times but never got over the hump. The skill level is better. Our guards can actually dribble & Reisma can rebound. Dowell, Thompson & Smith can drive & score. Mama was fast & could drive, but she'd either get her shot blocked or just throw it toward the hoop because she feared getting blocked. I've only watched Mizzou games so don't know if the other SEC teams are that much better than we are. Obviously, SC is.

Could have won the gave had they made a few 3's. First game of watched so I'm not sure what the identity is this team is but Dowell is one of the more athletic players I've seen playing for the lady Tigers un a long time. New interesting to see if/how this team progresses.
