A way to hide the true return on Arenado deal
If a player such as veteran Arenado is traded solo to another team , then the return is exactly known.
However , there is another maneuver to muddy the waters a bit on what the return is for a veteran aging star player.
Example .. The Cardinals trade Arenado plus a low Cardinal prospect and in return get two prospects (in that mid to low tier ) OR Arenado and a low prospect for one mid tier type player from the other team.
So you cannot say ,well for Arenado the Cardinals got Player X .
Don't know if the Cardinals will add someone to an Arenado deal but would not be surprised if Bloom might go that route. That way you are not pinpointing the exact value of Arenado as it was a package deal not strictly a solo deal by the Cardinals ( Arenado for ____ )

Nobody expects anything in return for Arenado. So, there is no reason to play games.

Yeah, who cares about massaging Arenado's ego? He needs to go for a bag of baseballs if possible. He's a drama queen who turned down a good trade last offseason. He was a drama queen in Colorado. Enough already. Just unload this dude and as much of his contract as possible. That should be the goal.

An alternative to your example is the Cardinals could try to get a team to take on more of Arenado's salary by trading him with someone who has value such as Donovan or maybe one of their young catching prospects.ramfandan wrote: ↑04 Dec 2025 00:17 am If a player such as veteran Arenado is traded solo to another team , then the return is exactly known.

The concept of making Arenado part of a package is fine, but I also don't understand why subterfuge would be the motivation.

I’d be happy with a box of #2 scorecard pencils in return for Nado. No salving of the wound is required.icon wrote: ↑04 Dec 2025 07:14 amYeah, who cares about massaging Arenado's ego? Get what you get for Arenado. Dont water down a better piece by trying to attach NA to it.

Re: A way to hide the true return on Arenado deal
People here poo pooed when I warned that Arenado's contract would be an albatross in the end.
"He's a star who could carry the team to the WS!"
"How could anyone oppose this trade? We got him for nothing!"
"We're even getting the Rocks to pay part of his salary."
"Big win for the Cards, Dumb-Bird!"
Now, after two good seasons out of five, 3 playoff game losses, the team still owing Nado 42-million dollars, people can't wait to get rid of this "lazy," "drama queen," loser.
