I’m trying to think of Missouri teams I’ve seen over the years better than Principia. I can’t think of many. A few Vashon teams, especially that 2002 team that dismantled Desmet by like 50 in the title game. Some mid 90’s Ritter teams were really talented. Pembroke Hill with the Rush brothers comes to mind. I’m sure there are others better. But Principia looks REALLY good. They’ve got a program going now.
You really are the Hoops Guru. I had to look them up and that’s just unbelievable. Yeah the 1951 team would definitely qualify as the best team in Missouri history. 5 D1 players. 2 college all Americans and pros.
Everyone should research and read about them. Might be a better Hollywood movie than Hoosiers. What a story.

Did you read it? I’ll try to at some point, I’m really interested. Craziest thing I read is Ryan allegedly had zero coaching experience and maybe didn’t even play? Not sure if that’s all accurate or not. But he got those teams to be the highest scoring team in the nation, scoring over a 100 points dozens of times.HoopsGuruII wrote: ↑10 Dec 2025 10:56 amThe book about the team and their coach "My Name Is Mister Ryan" by Matt Chaney is readily availble on eBay and other used book sources.Armchair QB wrote: ↑09 Dec 2025 12:13 pmHoopsGuruII wrote: ↑09 Dec 2025 10:32 amPuxico in the early 1950s would have been ranked number 1 in the nation.Armchair QB wrote: ↑08 Dec 2025 21:30 pmThanks for sharing, good video. Yes, it is a great and easy read. Ryan had played high school basketball and had done some refereeing, but this was his first coaching job. He started coaching at Puxico in 1945 and won state championships in 1951 and 1952.Armchair QB wrote: ↑10 Dec 2025 20:15 pmDid you read it? I’ll try to at some point, I’m really interested.
