BA just released their Mock draft after the lottery picks were selected.
Cardinals — Tyler Spangler, SS, De La Salle HS, Concord, Calif.
Spangler is one of the most highly regarded Stanford recruits in years, which could test just how unsignable Cardinal commits really are. He has a well-rounded game with a lean and projectable frame and strong contact skills to go with advanced defensive instincts and arm strength.
Tyler Spangler, INF, De La Salle HS, Concord, Calif.

Tyler Spangler, INF, De La Salle HS, Concord, Calif.
Spangler is a 6-foot-3 shortstop with a direct lefthanded swing to make frequent contact with an advanced offensive approach for his age. An above-average runner, Spangler has the size and bat speed that points to bigger power coming as well.

Player: Tyler Spangler
School: De La Salle (CA) Position(s): SS/3B
Height: 6’4″ Weight: 190 lbs. Bats: Left Throws: Right
Summary: The polish really stands out for Spangler, as he has a smooth, simple swing from the left side and generates plenty of bat speed. His ability to get the bat to ball is just about as good as any in the class, and there is a ton of power projection left. He currently does the most damage to the pull side where the natural loft in the swing allows him to lift the ball to right, there is projection in the frame making it easy to put above-average or better power potential grades. He has solid wheels on the bases and it gives him enough range for short, where he has really good hands and stays low on grounders despite his bigger frame. He should enter pro ball as a shortstop, but there is a real chance he grows to the point third base is in his future. There he has enough arm to be a solid defender, and the power profile works just fine.

you'll have to pay, probably, to get him to leave? That really depends on what he says. Most HS prospects go underslot that high up.ramfandan wrote: ↑09 Dec 2025 17:10 pm BA just released their Mock draft after the lottery picks were selected.

The Cards tend to pass on HS prospects early in the draft...even the can't miss ones....JoJo Parker last year. Though, we were probably going to take Eli Willits last year before the Nats took him #1, we settled for Doyle over Parker.

they're high on Derek Curiel...higher than I expected. He did have a really good freshman season for LSU.

Born when, 2008? Probably won't really help a team in a big way before 2031/32..

With 12 players selected ahead of our slot , BA had Spangler as the 3rd HS player coming off the board.craviduce wrote: ↑09 Dec 2025 17:39 pmyou'll have to pay, probably, to get him to leave? Will Bloom looking more long term and high elite upside players have a different philosophy on a HS talent at that spot.
As you pointed out, Mo run teams shied away . Last year at 5th , Varfinsls had the best strikeout Div. 1 pitcher (over 13 strikeouts per 9 innings) right there for the taking . Now this year, they won’t have that caliber of pitcher left after 12 selections, Wonder if Bloom will view HS top talent differently with a dozen mostly collegiate guys long gone off the board.
Will find out next draft day. He may change direction.

BA says it's a college hitter draft early. Other than Cholowsky
Re: Baseball America has High School SS Spangler to Cardinals at 13th pick
heavy hitting college draft. Some really good talent in the HS ranks, too. You have choices.
I just see an overwhelming need for Power in our system....a fast mover would be welcome. Generational talent from HS can move fast, IE: Griffin with the Pirates, but that's a diamond in the rough type thing.
Outside of Power Hitters, we NEED RHP....Flukey and Peterson could help. I saw Flukey with CC in their regional....he looked awesome. And then nearly outdueled Kade Anderson in the Championship game of the CWS.
Re: Baseball America has High School SS Spangler to Cardinals at 13th pick
Yes, everyone likes the pick to be as high as possible but I am not disappointed at all with 13th . Now if we were even 2 or 3 spots lower (15th/16th), I would be concerned too many top guys gone . However, though it is early it seems at 13th there is a group of 4 or 5 guys around that 11th-15th area that could be very good picks for the Cardinals. Couple that with the 32nd Comp. Balance pick and I am stoked for the 2026 Cardinal draft.craviduce wrote: ↑09 Dec 2025 19:45 pmheavy hitting college draft. Some really good talent in the HS ranks, too. You have choices.
