Kind of a bummer going down to 13 in the '26 draft, but

maybe the Cardinals will luck out in tomorrow's Rule 5 draft. There are some good pitchers available. Mostly, possible relievers for next season. The price is right for a rebuilding team that's pretty frugal.

It is disappointing to not move up but in reality we had the ELEVENTH worst record and are picking THIRTEENTH.
Not that big of a drop.
This will be more about Bloom of course making a smart pick.
Every year there are guys picked at the top who flop and those who are picked lower who overachieve.

The Giants and Royals came out as big winners, finding themselves with lottery picks after winning 80+ games last season. San Francisco went .500 and finished just two games out of a Wild Card spot. Kansas City ended up above .500 for the second straight year.

The Cardinals had a significant drop, falling from the eighth-best odds down to the 13th pick. The Marlins also fell five spots, going from the ninth-best odds to the 14th pick.

UCLA shortstop Roch Cholowsky is widely regarded as the top prospect in the 2026 draft. High school shortstop Grady Emerson and Alabama infielder Justin Lebron are candidates to be selected with early picks.

Zero relevance to STL picking 13th.
It will be years before it will be known who did or did not do well in the upcoming draft.

I view 13th pick in another way. Not only do we get that guy but also another guy 19 picks later.
Having that additional pick excites me very much.

Correct.
2 bites at the apple is of greater significance than one.

Everything else aside...I’d rather be picking at #8 or higher.
But....color me as an “optimist” and a “glass half full” guy.
And yes....every year it seems like it is a crapshoot with surprises that are good and bad.
Hopefully Bloom and his staff do their homework and nail it.

we still have Flores....we can do much better, imo.

Our overall drafts are still bad.
