Joel Hofer since 11/1
Joel Hofer has 10GP since 11/1 he has a .923 save pct (2.26 GA) which 10th ish in the NHL over that span (goalies with 8 or more starts over that span).
Jordan Binnington has an .883 save with a 3.39 GA also with 10GP
We can continue to make excuses for Binnington, the defense, the offense, this or that but if Monty and the Blues are serious about getting back into the WC race then Hofer is the clear cut #1. The mantra this year is going with younger guys giving them an opportunity. Well here ya go, show me. Hofer is 25 yrs old now its time to run with the better goalie and athlete otherwise we are just blowing smoke and status quo blah, blah, blah i will lose interest immediately in this mess.
Tuesday home vs Boston needs to be Hofer. As it stands, Monty's reluctance to hold veterans accountable while punishing younger players as well as Monty rewarding veterans in spots they dont deserve has already cast doubt we will see how he handles the goalie minutes

Hofer is 3-7 over his last 10, JB is 4-6. Both guys have similar numbers of OT losses which is likely why JB continues to get preference, or at least Joel does not. Moving JB over is not going to be easy.
As one who still see's a way for play offs, I would agree the hotter hand is the one who should get the load but in the end the team needs both goalies to be playing better.

Re: Joel Hofer since 11/1
Blues are literally 3pts back of Utah with a game in hand, every team in front of the Blues is stumbling its right there for the picking but an .883 save pct isnt going to make it happen. Goalie Wins is not a great stat to determine actual performance, same with a starting pitcher Wins. For me its save pct which levels the playing field. And if we are saying the team plays better and allows fewer HDSCs with Hofer in net, then even better.dhsux wrote: ↑07 Dec 2025 11:50 amIf I'm Monty I don't make a decision for Tuesday until Monday after tonights game.Harry S Deals wrote: ↑07 Dec 2025 11:29 am Joel Hofer has 10GP since 11/1 he has a .923 save pct (2.26 GA) which 10th ish in the NHL over that span (goalies with 8 or more starts over that span).

I can totally see JB responding well to Hofers threat to his playing time tonight but so what he'll face Boston on Tues and [shirt] the bed. Count on it

Re: Joel Hofer since 11/1
I'm all for riding the hot hand, but as was noted we are gonna need both guys to elevate to at least the level Hofer is at right now. I'd wait and see if Binnington gets going in Montreal, but it's gonna be tough for me to put him in net ahead of Hofer on Tuesday.
Neighbours is 25 and got the benefit of the doubt, he's not a veteran yet. May not be a rookie either, but just saying i think the coach picks who he trusts and who he doesn't based on accountability, which is something the youngsters have to learn a little bit at times. That's a coaching thing, i don't have much problem with it overall unless a player gets the doghouse every single mistake they make (then they play afraid).
A lot of the team will have to get better on the whole, they committed defensively last night to blocking shots and laying out so there is effort. Just need them to also commit offensively to being right there next to the paint and finding ways to get pucks down there via shots.

They have both had their issues this year.....and they both need to work them out for this team to go any where.

Re: Joel Hofer since 11/1
I don't give or take anything from either Binny or Hoff partaining to their performance backing this team. For me, it's impossible. All the usuall stats, etc. are out. Our boys have problems all over the place that leads directly to what our goalies can do to try to keep the team in every game. Hoff has looked better than Binny for a game or two, then Binny will come in and have to save the day. The way the rest of the team have been playing doesn't allow for either Binny or Hoff to realistically show what they can actually do. No goalie should have to suffer through what our goalies are being put through.
Re: Joel Hofer since 11/1
That's true Dave but the Blues were listless in the first and I have to think as they watched Joel put aside some 20 shots against their own paltry number they actually got more motivated to play the right way and imo it was Joel's game that made them better after the first 20.Blues Dave wrote: ↑07 Dec 2025 14:04 pm I don't give or take anything from either Binny or Hoff partaining to their performance backing this team. Re: Joel Hofer since 11/1
Yesterday, Binner had a pretty good game. The most worrisome part of that game was the 3rd goal. That thing didn't appear to be screened or anything. a Fluffed puck crossed him up and he made no reaction. That thing was like a change up going over the shoulder under the bar. Binner seems to be at his best when the game is close, and at his worst when there is cushion or the team is down by a couple. Hofer the other night allowed a bad effort by the skaters to be fixed and win it. Binner, almost spoiled a gritty effort by the boys where they got dominated in the first, but came out with some good drive in the 2nd. The 3rd period was all Blues until the last 5 minutes.
Re: Joel Hofer since 11/1
It was a "flash" screen. The forwards time it that way - especially with an extra man. When a goalie doesn't move at all ... he didn't see the puck off the stick.callitwhatyouwant wrote: ↑08 Dec 2025 09:44 am Yesterday, Binner had a pretty good game. that's fine. but you can say that's happening a lot and the timing/quality of that shot leaves something to be desired there.bud white wrote: ↑08 Dec 2025 09:47 amIt was a "flash" screen. At the 2 minute mark. That puck broke a half a foot like a right-handed curveball. It was moving slow enough that Faulk had time to duck out of its path..
