righty / lefty

Post by C-Unit »

Just a quick point. The prevailing theme seems to be that we are too left-handed in our lineup, therefore whoever we acquire in our minor league system should be right-handed to help balance it out.

Let's see:

- Donovan (will be traded)
- Nootbaar (will likely be traded)
- Burleson (definitely a lineup mainstay right now, but ultimately a 1B/DH type who could theoretically become expendable at any point depending on his production, his price, and the rest of the roster)
- Gorman (a non-factor at this point as far as roster planning)
- Scott II (defense first player who may end up not being a starting player in time)
- Wetherholt (yes)

So Wetherholt and Burleson?... and Scott II?

You've got Jimmy Crooks (L), what is he? Pretty hard to tell at this point if he's going to be the longterm catcher. He may or may not be.

Our notable hitting prospects:
- Rodriguez (RH)
- Baez (RH)
- Jesus Baez (RH)
- Bernal (S)
- Deniel Ortiz (RH)
- Y. Padilla (a long way away, but S)

And I'm not so sure I'd be discriminating future additions based on any of the following names: Chase Davis, Matt Koperniak, Nathan Church. They are spare pieces that may or may not contribute.

So just a quick point to say I wouldn't necessarily discriminate whether we get a RH or LH hitting prospect in one of these trades. There are a lot of solid LH hitting prospects. And, there are going to be some solid LH hitters in the upcoming draft (AJ Gracia is one).

Whether it's pitching or position players, I hope we get the highest upside and highest valued pieces we can into our organization. Simple as that.

^^ well said. Especially your last three sentences.

by the time the younins are ready to contribute to the big club (years in a lot of cases) our LH / RH mix may be quite or somewhat different than it is today
