Re: Potential Rule 5 Draft Targets
Of these, I posted about Petit a couple of times. He would be a good get. I also posted about Natera, Jr. from the Angels as a return for Arenado. They will probably lose him anyway, so they could trade him and to Cardinals could roster him. I have liked Pena of the Padres as well. The last pitcher listed from the White Sox is interesting. I haven't had him on my radar.

I saw that this morning.
Interesting read.
Re: Potential Rule 5 Draft Targets
This could be the Rule 5 draft for the Cardinals to pick up a needed, fairly young starting pitcher. And it wouldn't put too much of a hit on DeWitt's budget. There appear to be some good possibilities available. We'll find out next week.

Re: Potential Rule 5 Draft Targets
I’m guessing he picks up at least one bullpen arm
Re: Potential Rule 5 Draft Targets
Maybe with an outside chance of competing for a spot in the rotation would be nice.

Re: Potential Rule 5 Draft Targets
With the current dearth of up and coming starting pitching in the organization. Why wouldn't Bloom try to fill that gap a little by selecting the top, most ready, potential starting pitcher available in next week's Rule 5 draft? And there seems to be be some good ones that might be there when the Cardinals select.
Re: Potential Rule 5 Draft Targets
You can pick up decent players via Rule 5. Hector Luna, Matt Bowman, Ryan Fernandez '24 version... A starting pitcher who sticks on the 26 man is a tall order. Maybe some of those guys in the column could be a quality bullpen arm.Shady wrote: ↑05 Dec 2025 16:49 pm With the current dearth of up and coming starting pitching in the organization. I agree. But, with the current situation, wouldn't it be great to luck in to picking up a potential lower end of the rotation, young starting pitcher?Mort Gage wrote: ↑05 Dec 2025 17:13 pmYou can pick up decent players via Rule 5. Re: Potential Rule 5 Draft Targets
I don't see any position players available that might make a difference for the Cardinals next season. Three or four pitchers might.
