Typical Gates Loss

Post by Red7 »

Sloppy, poor fundamentals, lack of a cohesive defense, and incoherent substitution pattern and the inability to pull out of a spiral, be it in a game or in the midst of a long losing streak.

I agree completely. You hit on all the key points. In his fourth season, you can't draw any other conclusion than he doesn't prioritize defense, and in particular guarding the three point line.

If anyone has the game recorded, check out 16:13 of the 1st half. Can someone tell me why the hell #11 of Notre Dame did not get called for traveling? As Chick Hearn used to say "he traveled so much he could have gotten good rates from my travel agent".

Gates and Drink are very similar in that they are outstanding recruiters, cultivate a family like relationship, woo the Mizzou fan base effectively, but are both mediocre (at best) in-game strategists. Hoping Gates grows and that ultimately the talent will cancel out the scheming issues.

I felt the same about Pinkel. He would have made a great player personnel director or position coach in the NFL. He and his staff were great Sunday through Friday coaches. Saturdays, not so much…

Those were the worst officials I’ve ever seen in a D1 game outside of Allen Fieldhouse. Kind of on both sides too. It was just awful. Ultimately their bad calls cost us more in the end though. Should have been a travel called on Burton right before he passed to Certa for the go ahead / game winning 3. Blatant no call.

I think they’re partially to blame for the choppy and chippy nature of the game.

winning coaches overcome bad officiating. Of course Gates isn't so far and he doesn't. Luckily there is hope for next season.

This one is to be endured.

Winning coaches like Gates don't need to hear the evaluations of a small-school, JV coach who was forced into finding other people jobs when advancement of his own remained stagnant.

Except that is how Mizzou plays EVERY game. They’re a dam Chinese fire drill out there.

When a referee T's up someone so quickly after a call (Crews), it's because he knows he made a bad call.

And that’s an indicator of a bad ref. Always make the right call, as you see it. Don’t constantly be thinking I have to even the score. Because all you’ll do is continue to make bad calls. Unless you are that talented of an official that you can do one makeup and then be right after that. Those guys were not capable of that.

I never heard if Crews did anything except shoot during the dead ball. If the technical was just for that, then that’s is pathetic. If he said something he shouldn’t have, then he got what he deserved.

The other moving screen call on Mitchell was even worse. He rolled out of the screen before any contact could be made, and no contact was even made.
