'Huskers in Nashville?

Post by acco40 »

Lots of rumors say Mizzou may face Nebraska in the Music City Bowl. I think that would be a great match up.

Other match ups that would be interesting - Illinois (Music City Bowl), Duke (Mayo Bowl) or Miami (Gator Bowl). Has Mizzou played Miami since being drubbed 55-0 in 1988? (A quick review says Mizzou did a tad better in 1989 losing 38-7 to the Hurricanes). Miami / Mizzou would be a tough match for the Tigers - Miami is better than Illinois or Nebraska and the game would probably be at the Gator Bowl (ACC vs. SEC the day after Christmas) giving Miami a home field (but a warm place for Mizzou fans to travel to - Jacksonville).

I'd have the least amount of interest in playing Duke.

Vs Miami would be surprising, but a great opportunity. They’re really good. They had a puzzling loss to SMU in OT and a close loss to an under rated Louisville (IMHO). Otherwise they’d be undefeated top 2-3 in the country. They should still probably be a playoff team if you’re taking the 12 best teams. But, because of the stupid way this is set up, teams like James Madison, BYU, Tulane, North Texas, Virginia, and even Duke have a better chance to make the playoffs than Miami, Vandy, and Texas. IMO any of those 3 teams would sweep those other teams.

Anywho, Miami would be a big game in a warm climate so that’s good.

I’d still greatly prefer Nashville and Illini or the Nubs.

Nebraska is ranked around 150th in NCAA in rushing yards allowed. Their QB is a freshman with 2 starts. Tigers by 40 if we have the chance.

It would be nice to see Lateef and Zollers lead their teams against each other.

Mizzou 8-4.
Fuskers 7-5.
Seems like a good match until you look at the Nub's schedule. I guess their best win was their first game this season; vs Cincinnati (7-5) in Arrowhead & they were lucky to win that one. Although we didn't beat a team with a winning record, Nebraska's victories were pretty cringe worthy. Their other wins came against: Houston Christian (2-10), Akron (5-7), Mich St (4-8), MD (4-8). NW (6-6) & UCLA (3-9).
We lost to four Top 13 teams. NU lost to Michigan #18, Iowa (not in Top 25), MN, USC #17 & Penn St.

It’s not the records in 2025, its the history of playing them for well over 100 years that is appealing.

The Tigers should avoid playing Nebraska if at all possible.

It can only help them and hurt us. Even if we win, it still gives them exposure inside Missouri which they desperately want and need. Our state is primary recruiting country for them, and also their biggest fan base -- That's why they play games in KC.

It's a plus for them to play the Tigers or play inside the state.

The opposite is not true.

Play Kansas. Play Texas. Play Colorado and Ok State if you want, but never Nebraska.

Beating up on the cornholers doesn't excite me. Playing Miami, that's an exciting matchup.

I think we should turn down the bowl game rather than play the cornsuckers!
