I remember Ozzie Smith drinking coffee in the dugout during a game.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑02 Dec 2025 10:05 amI often wondered if coffee is a performance enhancer. You’re probably right. It’s the only explanation that makes sense….less controversial.RamFan08NY wrote: ↑02 Dec 2025 00:36 amIn my opinion, had Ortiz broke records like Bonds, Mac, clemons and Sosa, he wouldn't be in. As weird as it may sound , I think the writers game him a pass because he didn't rewrite any records, and he always had the fun lovin personality. Thats just the way the voters think.CorneliusWolfe wrote: ↑30 Nov 2025 20:24 pmI forgot about Ortiz…how the hell did he slip through the cracks? McGwire was on a non-banned substance (at the time) and he didn’t get in.

If most of the league was using something then the only “bad” outcome is a General elevated level of play.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑02 Dec 2025 10:03 amRoids determined the outcome of multiple world series champions.Goldfan wrote: ↑02 Dec 2025 09:56 amYou should read up on Gaylord Perry and Neikro brothers…..ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑02 Dec 2025 08:58 amBonds is the greatest cheater in the history of baseball.makesnosense wrote: ↑01 Dec 2025 07:05 amIt is a disgrace only that he got in before Bonds. Bonds is the greatest hitter of his generation and a top 10 of all time. But you keep on stumping for Rose.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑02 Dec 2025 08:58 amBonds is the greatest cheater in the history of baseball.makesnosense wrote: ↑01 Dec 2025 07:05 amIt is a disgrace only that he got in before Bonds. But he was lovable so it is with a wink and a nod we acclaim him a HOF. He actually broke written, known rules that have been around since 1920, much like Rose.Goldfan wrote: ↑02 Dec 2025 10:00 amAdmission: Perry openly discussed doctoring baseballs with substances like Vaseline, K-Y jelly, and even fishing line oil. The outcome of thousands of games were altered by roids. Rose was banned for life. Some of the roid boys continued to work in MLB jobs after leaving the game and I don't remember Bonds and his buddies getting banned for life.makesnosense wrote: ↑02 Dec 2025 12:04 pmBonds is the greatest hitter of his generation and a top 10 of all time. You have zero evidence to back up your first statement. Why would Bonds be banned for life? After all he did what he did to make himself a better player. By being a better player it made the game better.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑02 Dec 2025 13:58 pmThe outcome of thousands of games were altered by roids. Rose was banned for life. After all these years it still amazes how some just don't get what using steroids does to make a player (hitter, runner and pitcher) better than what they NATURALLY would be.

I don’t get it. I can see brute force. I can see it in football. I can see it helping runners who run . I can see throwing longer more often.rockondlouie wrote: ↑02 Dec 2025 14:32 pm After all these years it still amazes how some just don't get what using steroids does to make a player (hitter, runner and pitcher) better than what they NATURALLY would be.

I don’t see how it helps the actual art of hitting a baseball. Or laying off sweepers. Pitch recognition. That I don’t see.
Re: Sammy Sosa . . . HOF?
It doesn't help you hit a baseball, it helps you hit a baseball harder. Well I guess it improves bat speed which could allow you to catch up to pitches you otherwise might not have been able to make contact with.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑02 Dec 2025 14:41 pmI don’t get it. It would seem to me it would favor pitchers over position players. Rest plus.rbirules wrote: ↑02 Dec 2025 14:45 pmIt doesn't help you hit a baseball, it helps you hit a baseball harder. Again, if most of the league was doing it at the time then it’s a wash.
And it very interesting that a Maddux, Pedro, Johnson, Schilling, Glavine,…..so some of the BEST SP to play put up historic numbers pitching to a league of steroid users. Please square this for me? So the truly talented and gifted padded their stat line, they would’ve been in the HOF regardless.
This was one of the most entertaining baseball eras from a fan point of view. I’d gladly return to that baseball over what we’re watching today.

Under the influence. The entire league. Wouldn’t that lead to a higher level of human baseball.Goldfan wrote: ↑02 Dec 2025 15:07 pm Again, if most of the league was doing it at the time then it’s a wash.

If you think there is no evidence of rampant roid use then there is no need to continue the conversation.makesnosense wrote: ↑02 Dec 2025 14:29 pmYou have zero evidence to back up your first statement. There are fellas who get busted today…….I don’t see them putting up steroid era stats…..so again the all-time Elites who might have roided would be HOFers regardless AND if most of the league was roiding then its a wash..ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑02 Dec 2025 15:59 pmIf you think there is no evidence of rampant roid use then there is no need to continue the conversation.makesnosense wrote: ↑02 Dec 2025 14:29 pmYou have zero evidence to back up your first statement.
