Great Story On Broberg..
I love how he’s always working on getting better, so far so good…
According to Natural Stat Trick, the Blues have scored 48 goals and allowed 62 at five-on-five, which is tied for the third most in the league. Broberg has played nearly 520 minutes of five-on-five, and despite having 58 offensive-zone starts and 87 defensive-zone starts, he’s the only defenseman on the roster who’s been on the ice for more five-on-five goals for than against (20-18).
“I’m just trying to be harder to play against, working on down low, and being a little bit more physical,” Broberg said.“

He's pushing hard for a spot on Sweden's Olympic team. I'm sure Steen has some input.SameOldBlues wrote: ↑01 Dec 2025 10:39 am I love how he’s always working on getting better, so far so good…

Soon to be the highest paid player in St. Louis Blues history and he’s well worth that cost. Again, I shudder to think what our team would look like without him.

I'm still absolutely amazed Edmonton even allowed this to happen for him, much less Holloway as well.Pierre McGuire wrote: ↑01 Dec 2025 11:00 am Soon to be the highest paid player in St. Louis Blues history and he’s well worth that cost. Simply blown away.

Re: Great Story On Broberg..
Broberg with the puck on his stick is pretty impressive. If he had a bit better shot/finishing he would rack up a ton of points. I feel like the better defenders who are offensive minded have a weird ability to get the puck on net and the goalie give up big rebounds. You don't necessarily see that from Brobergs game.
Re: Great Story On Broberg..
What's he done?
Re: Great Story On Broberg..
Right.
I think the guy is playing better and less erratic then he was last. I even think he is a top four defender. But he hasn't blown me away with his reads, leads, plays, or positioning.
Though I think he is our best shot at having a elite defender. At this time.

Re: Great Story On Broberg..
According to some stats I pulled, he does stand out on the stat sheet. I think you just need to dig deeper on him.
Broberg's average time on ice (TOI) of over 23 minutes per game shows the coaches trust him. Very valuable trait in a young defenseman.
His skating speed (99th percentile for max speed) is a major asset. Closing gaps, recovering quickly, and transitioning from his own end.
Broberg's high rate of defensive zone starts indicates the coaching staff trusts him in high-pressure defensive situations.
He's young and every defenseman brings a whole set of different tools. Not every Dman should be measured just by goals, assists and hits. At this stage, he already has game.

Good write-up. I've been thinking he might be the best player on the team. I know Sweden will lean toward their vets for the Olympics, but Broberg has to be giving them reason for roster consideration.John Cocktoastin wrote: ↑01 Dec 2025 16:16 pm According to some stats I pulled, he does stand out on the stat sheet. You're right, Frank. Not sure who is under consideration, but Broberg has to be in the conversation.Frank Barone wrote: ↑01 Dec 2025 16:23 pmGood write-up. Re: Great Story On Broberg..
Imagine how good Broberg and Holloway could be if the team was clicking and firing on all cylinders. Theyve been collectively playing a discombobulated game and everyones off. Nobody is really playing a smooth game right now. Both of these guys will shine as the team developed chemistry.
Re: Great Story On Broberg..
Considering what they had on D, where he is in his development, how he played in the playoffs... I agree it's surprising.TheJackBurton wrote: ↑01 Dec 2025 11:06 amI'm still absolutely amazed Edmonton even allowed this to happen for him, much less Holloway as well.Pierre McGuire wrote: ↑01 Dec 2025 11:00 am Soon to be the highest paid player in St. Louis Blues history and he’s well worth that cost. Their 8th OA pick is 22 years old, plays 17 and 18 minutes a night in the SCF with 2g1a +8 in 10 games, and they decide to mess around and let him get offered $4M when they probably could've signed him for less, and surely could've fit him in after they dumped Ceci.
Oh well...

The thing I like about them is they will lead the next core. Especially Holloway. He's a leader by all accounts. Skill, presence - they have it.HighStick wrote: ↑01 Dec 2025 16:39 pm Imagine how good Broberg and Holloway could be if the team was clicking and firing on all cylinders.
