Cardinals: Tyler Mahle, RHP
The Cardinals are clearly in reset mode after trading Sonny Gray, with more deals likely to come this winter. But St. Louis is in need of rotation help for 2026, and with long-term deals seemingly not in its plans, the club could look to starting pitchers willing to sign for a year or two. Mahle was 6-4 with a 2.18 ERA in 16 starts for the Rangers last season, but he hasn’t reached the 100-inning mark since 2022, so he could look to take a one-year deal with the hopes of putting together a healthy year before testing free agency again next offseason.li

Agree w/others JoJo likely part of a package w/Donny if C. Bloom is to land a young major league starter w/years of control.
Of the one-year guys, I'd take a shot at:
Dustin May
Tyler Mahle

if you're not quoting the msn website, it's not worthwhile

Mahle would be a good target, but only if the Cardinals were sure of his health, and availability coming into the Spring. They can’t afford to sign a guy who is not going to give them some innings. That’s my only reservation!

I could see that, Mahle would help if he's health enough to give them some innings.
Have to wonder about this one Reds: Kyle Schwarber, DH

I completely agree with you on this. I also wouldn’t mind adding Aaron Civale and Cody Ponce to this list as well (although they might require a bit more in years).rockondlouie wrote: ↑01 Dec 2025 08:38 am Been my thought as well:

Maybe the team could get some looks at some of the young pitchers during his inevitable IL stints? If they show well, trade Mahle, if not plug him back in until someone seizes the job. Earning a spot is something our young players haven’t had to do enough of lately.

Here's a name for you shady:
Cody Ponce
Former 2nd round pick of the Brewers.
Pitched in the KBO last season (29 GS: 1.89 ERA/180.66 IP) but looking to return to MLB
(I wouldn't give him the $8M AAV for three years matt wanted to but I'd take a flyer at $5M AAV/2 yrs)
