I am struggling with the concept of “$25M in roster cash” in Kiffin’s deal. The NCAA approved each school to distribute $20.5M across all sports. There is still some issues with how that gets distributed and how TitleIX will impact the dispersement (split across men and women’s sports). Regardless, if the school only manages a $20.5M budget how is LSU guaranteeing a football roster cash of $25M? It almost feels like they are guaranteeing NIL money which is not allowed to be “governed” by the schools. Per NCAA, NIL deals are “private contracts between players and brands, companies, or individuals not directly associated with the school.”
This deal sounds a little shady. Anyone know if there is another pool of money the school can guarantee to Kiffin other than the $20.5M the NCAA allows?

Maybe there is an expectation (or direct knowledge) that the $20.5 mil is going to be raised to $25 mil?
Re: Kiffin LSU deal doesn’t seem to match NCAA Language
N I L money has to be from a third party....
boosters, collectives, individual donors...
the school can not "guarantee" an amount or make up a shortfall....
are you suggesting L S U is cheating???
surely not

And even with that….there are the Bama, Georgia, Fla, LSU suggestions…rezero wrote: ↑30 Nov 2025 10:38 amIndirectly, yes I am saying they are cheatingThey are putting a guaranteed $25M “roster cash” in a contract that a school legally can’t spend if they stay inside in NCAA rules. Plus the $20.5M they can spend, may not all be distributed to football. But as we know, rules in the SEC are more like suggestions anyway.
and another set of suggestions for the rest of the poor schmucks…
(too soon to know which set Texas and OU gets)

I think LSU is saying that there will always be more than enough money to spend not that Lane can spend all that money
