We should be able to use our own reasoning to consider, out of all of the PED users who had overall HOF worthy total career stats, which ones we think would have still had HOF worthy careers without the PEDs.

It seems pretty well agreed that Bonds was one of the top talents to ever play the game... and therefore would have very likely had a HOF career without PEDs.

I don't think we can say the same about Sosa. Up until 1998 he was maybe a Yasiel Puig or a Yoenis Cespedes of the era. Good athletic power hitting outfielder, low average low on-base, and overall not a HOF talent in my opinion.

Without a doubt

600 home runs and 1660+ RBI, 230+ stolen bases, another 400 + doubles and triples, 1500 runs scored, 2400 hits, nearly 1000 walks, an MVP, 6 top 10 finishes, 6 silver sluggers and the most astounding run of home run hitting in baseball history: 66, 63, 50, 64 in 4 consecutive seasons. The only player in MLB history to have 3 60 home-run season. Ruth, Judge, Maris and Raleigh have one. McGwire has 2. Sosa leads at 3.

The guy averaged 112 RBI a season. In 2021 he slashed .328 / .437 / .737 / 1.174 hit 64 home runs, scored 146 runs, had 103 extra base hit, drove in 160 RBI and had 425 total bases, all while be intentionally walked a major league leading 37 times and had over a 10 WAR. He had a 203 OPS+ meaning he was better than twice as good as the average MLB hitter.

For those that think it was just the steroids... before the 1998 breakout, he averaged 34 home runs, 26 steals and 100 RBI per season for the previous five years, was a Silver Slugger, All-Star and MVP vote getter three times. He was a (bleep) fine, hell of a ballplayer his entire career.

He competed in the era he competed, the same as everyone else in that era, and put up undeniably hall of fame numbers.

Shouldn’t even be a consideration until Bonds is in.

No [shirt]. He and a dozen others would be first ballot otherwise. The voters have already spoken on guys like this, regardless of all the fake stats.

I forgot about Ortiz…how the hell did he slip through the cracks? McGwire was on a non-banned substance (at the time) and he didn’t get in.

Roid user-corked bat user-selfish teaammate-teammates hated him. Would never move from one spot in RF. Would stand in the exact same spot for every single batter. Beat his wife.

After looking at his stats, this was my conclusion.

Could just let them all in and anyone who has tested positive for steroids or whatever should have some type of note on it. Who cares anymore...

Couldn't stand the player on the field. He was even a worse person off the field! I have no respect for people who abuse a woman. That being said, he definitely had HoF numbers, but like another poster said, no entrance until they start letting them in, and only after Bonds. Ortiz is a head scratcher??
