What do you think Bloom is asking for Donovan ?
For sure (as all GM's do ) , Bloom is playing the game when asked about Donovan . The standard line would be 'well , it would take a substantial return to give up Donovan but I am willing to listen . If I get his value, I would consider it . Sure !
So then in general terms , the teams would be asking Bloom so what areas are you seeking ? (not specific names initially but pitchers vs position players.. major leaguers / prospects )
If you were a fly on Bloom's wall , what are you thinking Bloom is telling them ?

He is determining what the market will bear. He doesn't have to trade Donnie. He collecting pitching, and is still short of it, so I suspect that is his first ask, and then a RH hitting OFer. Maybe a 3B prospect as well.ramfandan wrote: ↑29 Nov 2025 19:58 pm For sure (as all GM's do ) , Bloom is playing the game when asked about Donovan . Yes, he doesn't have to trade Donovan but they also realize he is willing to do so as 1) he is beginning the rebuild and Donnie is his biggest trade chip . They realize Donovan is worth more with 2 years remaining til FA vs. after next year with 1 year left.bccardsfan wrote: ↑29 Nov 2025 20:03 pmHe is determining what the market will bear. Thanks for the three areas. P, RH OF< and maybe a 3B

Re: What do you think Bloom is asking for Donovan ?
Well, I certainly could be wrong, but as it stands, those are three areas of need if he trades Donovan, and somehow manages to shed Nado. Saggese has neither the arm or bat to play 3B. JJ is an unknown for 3B to me. It would certainly fit the team needs better if he plays 3B, but I don't know how well he can do that. I just don't want to see Saggese or Fermin as everyday players. I am assuming Gorman is gone, but if he is here, he needs to be DH. He is a garden gnome in the field. Now and then, but not the everyday third baseman. There are many pieces here that could be traded or kept. I suspect it will all be clear by ST. Anyway, yes I know Donovan is his biggest trade chip, but he will look for a bidding war and the highest return. The question is whether the return will be MLB ready player(s) or AAA. I don't see him trading Donovan for a lottery ticket.ramfandan wrote: ↑29 Nov 2025 20:11 pmYes, he doesn't have to trade Donovan but they also realize he is willing to do so as 1) he is beginning the rebuild and Donnie is his biggest trade chip . Re: What do you think Bloom is asking for Donovan ?
Donovan is probably our best trade chip....but....with two years of control there is no pressure to move him.
Actually......the deadline or next offseason could work as well.
Assuming Arenado is gone and Gorman on borrowed time Donovan could our 3B for a while?

Re: What do you think Bloom is asking for Donovan ?
As I said, all will be clear by ST. There are many trade possibilities between Nado, WC, and Donnie. Noot would be harder to trade given that he is recovering and will have to prove he is healthy. I just don't want to watch Gorman butcher 3B defense every day.Cusecards wrote: ↑29 Nov 2025 20:37 pm Donovan is probably our best trade chip....but....with two years of control there is no pressure to move him.

Most likely scenario.bccardsfan wrote: ↑29 Nov 2025 20:41 pmAs I said, all will be clear by ST. There are many trade possibilities between Nado, WC, and Donnie. Cards are a bit overloaded with LH bats so someone probably goes.
I’m just a big fan of hitters like Donovan.
Give you a tough AB almost every time. He’s the type of guy I want up in the clutch.
As opposed to hitters like Gorman....who tease you with their power but usually whiff the breeze when the game is on the line.
Re: What do you think Bloom is asking for Donovan ?
Probably checking to see what assets he can get for Contreras/Noot/Gorman etc first. No rush to move Donovan.
Re: What do you think Bloom is asking for Donovan ?
Top tier prospect, lottery ticket and/or starting pitcher with some control (can't be picky there, so maybe 1 or 2 years left in Arb), and a Competitive Balance pick in the 2026 draft...if the team we trade with doesn't have a CBP, then $200K in IFA bonus allotment.
Maybe I'm being too greedy? But that seems on par for Donovan's BTV. PLease, correct me if I'm wrong....too much/too little.
edit ~ the starting pitcher won't be a great one...4.00-4.50 ERA, but can hurl 150 plus innings.

Re: What do you think Bloom is asking for Donovan ?
I don't know but there is plenty of interest as you would expect for any pitcher who is top 5 in MLB at his position.
Story
Strange story though. It says if they can't get what they want for Donovan they will move either Nootbar or Gorman - as if either of those 2 are in the same category as Donovan.

Re: What do you think Bloom is asking for Donovan ?
Hopefully a prospect with a ceiling to be as good or better.
Re: What do you think Bloom is asking for Donovan ?
3 teams fit that possibility in a Donovan trade.craviduce wrote: ↑29 Nov 2025 20:52 pm Top tier prospect, lottery ticket and/or starting pitcher with some control (can't be picky there, so maybe 1 or 2 years left in Arb), and a Competitive Balance pick in the 2026 draft...if the team we trade with doesn't have a CBP, then $200K in IFA bonus allotment.

Seattle can offer Emerson Hancock as a controllable starter, Montes or Arroyo as the top prospect and comp pick b as Seattle is likely to get one. They should also ask for Williamson as a fit at third to see if his offense picks up. He’s a terrific defensive third baseman.
Dodgers can offer River Ryan as the mlb ready pitcher and either Freeland or Sirota as the top tier prospect and lotto pick
Yankees can offer Hampton as the pitcher and either Jones or Dominguez as the other player.

Re: What do you think Bloom is asking for Donovan ?
Anyone of those 3 trades would be hard to pass up. I trust Bloom to make that decision.
Re: What do you think Bloom is asking for Donovan ?
Agree....I think he is looking at the best possible pitching prospect he can get in trade package..many teams could use a player like Donovan...bccardsfan wrote: ↑29 Nov 2025 20:17 pmWell, I certainly could be wrong, but as it stands, those are three areas of need if he trades Donovan, and somehow manages to shed Nado. Re: What do you think Bloom is asking for Donovan ?
That’s not enough. Donny is a sure thing. A prospect that Might replace his production also might not. Better to just keep Donovan. It’s not like we can’t afford him, even at market value to extend is desired.
We’d need to be wowed by the return value to be worth the trade.
