Brodeur has family in St. Louis?!?!
So I was flipping through FB this morning, and, a post from Marty wishing his kid Max a Happy Birthday popped up. It was one of those pictures where it was split between baby and now. It was a baby pic of him in a Devils sweater (for the record, I'm willing to bet the Devils logo was photoshopped), but the now pic was his hockey pic for 2025-2026 and he plays for the Affton Americans. I was like, what?, wow! I didn't think he was here long enough to put down roots, but guess I was wrong.

Yeah, he still lives here for a good portion of the year. Hell he'd probably still be a part of the Blues organization if the Devils hadn't come calling.TAFKAP wrote: ↑28 Nov 2025 07:31 am So I was flipping through FB this morning, and, a post from Marty wishing his kid Max a Happy Birthday popped up. I wondered about this. I've had on Facebook a woman with the last name Brodeur pop up from time to time. My son played youth hockey at Affton up till last year so we have friends in common.

I saw that post and had the same thought. Was surprised he planted roots. Then again a lot of retired athletes like it in St. Louis because their money goes a very long way.

At the risk of sounding like the St. Louis Chamber of Commerce, there are a number of high end retired athletes who live there full or part time. Please note that I haven’t lived in the STL area for 30 years, and have lived in suburban Chicago, Cincinnati, Houston, and now San Antonio, so I have some outside perspective.
So why would a retired athlete live in the STL area?
1). Reasonable cost of living
2). Great sports town with opportunities to do commercials
3). The wealthy western suburbs are really nice (Ladue, Town & Country etc)
4). Outdoor activities in the Ozarks (hunting, fishing, boating)
5). Reasonable winters compared to Canada or the northern US.
6). More user-friendly and laid back than the megaopolises.
Granted, some ex-pros prefer beaches, nightlife, etc, and gravitate to the coasts, but some would rather live a less stressed more laid back life in retirement.
Just my $0.02 worth based on my vagabond career. I considered moving back to STL when I retired, but most of my STL relatives have passed away.

OK, I have to admit I didn't know Marty's post Blues moves. I was surprised because I thought he went to Jersey to be assistant GM. That would be a position I figured you'd spend enough time to move the family. I just read it's a "Business Development" EVP and he's an "Advisor" on Hockey Ops. As a retired athlete with a family, I get it. I thought his deal with the Devils was a real job.

They also marry St. Louis girls. Gretzky did, Mark McGuire did and many more. Usually the wife determines where they live.bluetunehead wrote: ↑28 Nov 2025 14:27 pm I saw that post and had the same thought. Was surprised he planted roots. Exactly....The doomers and gloomers who rag on no one wanting to come here, fail to get that many people and especially a lot of hockey players are not from big metropolis areas and like outdoors and a laid back lifestyle. Depends on the person but generally a hockey player would put in order- money, winning, family environment, organization, type of lifestyle they prefer- laid back/outdoors/mountains/beach/flashy upscale/etc.Hazelwood72 wrote: ↑28 Nov 2025 15:45 pm At the risk of sounding like the St. Louis Chamber of Commerce, there are a number of high end retired athletes who live there full or part time. Hey, slow down. We don't too many of those always-knocking-StL knuckleheads to get any ideas about moving here!! Let them flyover.clemonsonroots wrote: ↑28 Nov 2025 16:49 pmExactly....The doomers and gloomers who rag on no one wanting to come here, fail to get that many people and especially a lot of hockey players are not from big metropolis areas and like outdoors and a laid back lifestyle.
