There is nothing wrong with seeing the team's warts against cupcake teams because those could get exposed in a big way against better competition. Even HCDG knows this. I love the 3-point shooting on this team (minus that of Mack), interior D and the rebounding so far. I don't like the number of TOs and the 3-point D. We'll all know a lot more after the ND and Kansas games.Barksdale's People wrote: ↑28 Nov 2025 20:13 pm This thread is hilarious. Mizzou immediately disposes of a weaker team and turns on cruise control but hey why not complain a bit?
Mizzou vs Cleveland St. would tell us nothing more about the basketball team than the game vs UCA or Louisiana told us about the football team. Winning by 90 or winning by 9 is truly irrelevant in these games, winning is all that matters.
And Mizzou did that within what 9 minutes? Seems to me blowing a team out and then shifting into “let’s just stay healthy and keep this lead” mode is always a pretty good strategy against the sisters of the poor. And not always something Mizzou has done under Gates by the way.
A rough football month has completely warped a portion of this board.

Porter likes to shoot the 3. He takes good shots. Doesn't have the "feel leather, shoot ball", Grill-like tendencies. Has good form. He just doesn't make many.
I thought maybe Robin Pingeton was giving HCDG tips what with all the turnovers. Hopefully, we'll make better decisions when we're challenged by better teams & know that every possession counts.

These are basically exhibition games where staff lets the players do whatever to see who can do what and now you will see a tightened rotation against ND and have a much better idea of what they are. Do agree they try and force ball into bigs even when double and triple covered which is nuts. Mack is out of control and along with MM they have terrible form and %'s shooting Trey and should bag that part of their game and both attack the rim.
Ant did seem uninterested in doing what he normally does and really like when TO gets into games. He can really finish at the rim and plays good D like ant does.
Crews has stepped up his game and is more complete than just a three point shooter. Norweather? does some good things but any forward can back him down to the rim and finish over him. Porter is solid rebounding and shooting. Boating will contribute if he plays good D. Not sure if Burns will play much with so many other big options.
ND game will be really interesting.

And there is nothing wrong with beating a team early and playing the rest of the way to never make it close enough to be a game. Something Gates and Co. have struggled to do at times over the years.icon wrote: ↑28 Nov 2025 22:49 pmThere is nothing wrong with seeing the team's warts against cupcake teams because those could get exposed in a big way against better competition. Because here is the newsflash to end all newsflashes, every team has warts. If complaining about a blowout where the game was over a quarter of the way in is your bag by all means. But I’ll still be here pointing of the hilarious strrreeeeetttccchh it takes to consider yesterday any kind of concern. As stated this game was never going to tell us anything about their chances vs. ND, ku, or the SEC.

Every fan has his or her own style of fandom. I'm entitled to mine and you to yours. So excuse me with not being fine with a bunch of TOs against a cupcake and failure to defend the 3 line, which have been problems throughout cupcake season. Re: Mizzou vs Cleveland State
This might be the worst non conference schedule to start a season I’ve ever seen at Mizzou. I totally get why Gates wants to play Cleveland State though.
I’m really looking forward to playing some legit teams. I think we are good, but no way to really know thus far. Hope we can flip the switch when we go to ND. Glad we go there before playing KU in KC. Otherwise that might be a slap in the face.

Now excuse me for pointing out that your complaint boils down to a hypothetical that has nothing to do with the game you’re speaking on.

I severely disagree with the rebounding. This team, with all of its height, does a rather poor job on the glass. No block outs at all. Just trying to out jump people and tip the ball around. Rebounding is more heart than height, and IMO if it doesn’t improve, we will have a long SEC season.
