Sonny Gray made his MLB debut in 2013 after being drafted in Round 1 in 2011. He has been named an All Star in 2015, 2019, and 2023.
While not being an ace pitcher , he arguably has been a solid No.2 -3 caliber starter during his career .
In his 13 MLB seasons, Sonny has earned over $96.5 Million .
In addition, as a 10+ year veteran , Gray will get a very nice pension from MLB. For being a 10+ player , he draws the maximum amount which is
$7,500 per month ( $90,000 per year ) that can be accessed starting at age 45 . If Gray decides NOT to start drawing his pension and waits til age 62 , he can maximize the benefit to $265,000 annually then.
Note: I have a feeling with his earnings to date that he would wait the 17 years and start drawing the over 1/4 million per year at that time. I am not a financial planner but what do you think ? )
Proves if you are good enough to be in the mix for a top of the rotation type pitcher, even though not an ace you can make some big bucks. I would guess Sonny , his wife, and two sons are very thankful today .
Sonny Gray has done quite well in the MLB $$$
