Well he’s good at I guess getting players to like him. He’s a paint by numbers manager isn’t good at getting the team to play good fundamentally but the players like him and I’m sure they don’t want him feeling any pressure to be good at his job or win

You try and justify it all you want.
I thought for sure he'd be gone at end of this past season.
Thought Bloom would want his guy.
I know Oli has 1 year remaining, but why even think to extend.
He hasn't earned any extension.
This could turn out to be the off season from hell.

Sort of a thin sourced storey and they us the words preliminary. Who knows what that really means.Bully4you wrote: ↑27 Nov 2025 03:24 amI don't know.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑27 Nov 2025 03:05 am Well he’s good at I guess getting players to like him. Oli Marmol in 2023 - “All this losing is going to serve us well in the future.”Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑27 Nov 2025 03:05 am Well he’s good at I guess getting players to like him. He has absolutely zero sense of urgency.

Maybe they think that given the right coaches, instructors, infrastructure (pitching labs, etc.), etc. that Marmol ultimately at least be the right guy to get more of their young players to where they need to be over the next 2-3 years.

I don't know
The manager is an easy target. It's also very easy to jump in and complain about whatever the multitude complains about.
The reality is none of us have ever met any of these people personally. We don't know anything about how they are actually perceived within the organization. We don't know first hand what it is about Marmol that the organization does or does not like.
When we complain about his decisions, we also have to admit we also don't know whether they are his decisions or the front office decisions (we have a new front office btw).
On that note, do we know out of any of the 30 teams which managers make their own decisions?
What is the mark of a good strategic manager in 2025? Is there a metric or is it purely based on fan complaints?
Have we ever, I mean ever, had a manager that "can't manage a bullpen" according to fans? Ignoring certain factors like... whether or not the manager has enough competent arms to work with??
I guess I'm in the minority but I'm not really making any conclusion about what it says about the organization based on what they do with Marmol. Keeping him around, or whatever the preliminary talks are, doesn't stop me from being able to have optimism about the direction Bloom is taking the franchise. The manager almost seems like a non-factor to me.

He is the best manager we've had since TLR.

To me, this says we like you. You were not the issue. Nado Goldy Yadi Waino were the elephants in the room.

A Marmot is a particular kind of species within the rodent family.
Active in warm weather, but inactive hibernators in the winter - in other words, a Marmot lacks the capacity to adapt to the environment.
It can only react.
They are not capable of survival on their own and must live in communities which serve primarily to protect the group.
They live underground and never stray far from the opening to their burrowed tunnels.
At the very first indication of a predator, a Marmot will always panic and dive for cover.
If you ever observe a Marmot family in its natural habitat (I have several times), you will hear a high-pitched whine just before these timid and predictable creatures flee to safety below at the first sign of danger.
A Marmot exists by grazing on low vegetation, while serving as a food source for more powerful predators in their ecosystem.
A Marmot seeks only to survive a base existence.
Oliver Marmot, given his natural and inescapable tendencies, has been the perfect manager for STL over the past years.
Why would the Cardinals not consider extending him?
He is who they are.

Yes perhaps MO’s crew made him an IPad robot…..show me differentsikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑27 Nov 2025 08:48 am To me, this says we like you. You were not the issue. Nado Goldy Yadi Waino were the elephants in the room.
If he’s pulling a SP at 5innings while the P is cruising….
If he leaves a SP in while getting hammered to a point where game is over…..
Stupid lineups until 1/3 of season is over and then he figures it out…..
Show Me you’re not really this stupid Oli

Yea seems to be the case. Maybe he was a victim of the system. I mean several other managers didn’t last under Mo. maybe the noise they made was directly related to - IPad induced play. Good point.Goldfan wrote: ↑27 Nov 2025 08:53 amYes perhaps MO’s crew made him an IPad robot…..show me differentsikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑27 Nov 2025 08:48 am To me, this says we like you. I can’t really judge Oli. He has not had good teams to manage. I’m a little critical of his bull pen usage and to me he platoons players too frequently. If they extend him for another year, no real issue. Longer creates a question.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑27 Nov 2025 08:48 am To me, this says we like you. You were not the issue. Re: Holy Sheet!!!--Cards having preliminary talks to EXTEND Oli Marmol
I've been saying this all offseason. Everyone keeps complaining that Oli hasn't been fired immediately and think that they're only keeping him because they are cheap and don't want to pay him for doing nothing next year, as if they haven't done that in the past or didn't just now pay $20 million to trade a guy.
But what if Bloom actually likes Oli. The players all seem to. I've heard for years how cheap DeWitt is and how Mo is so awful that he ruined a perennial World Series caliber franchise. If that's true, why would anyone expect Oli to succeed in such an awful regime? Maybe Bloom would like to see how it goes next year, and if it's working, then they extend him.
It doesn't seem crazy at all to me.
