Woodruff and Imanaga accepting QO made Gray deal possible.

Post by Melville »

Precisely as I analyzed in a prior thread, Woodruff and Imanaga accepting a QO changed the pitching market.
Certainly helped to make the Gray deal possible.
It thinned the FA pool now.
And expanded it next year.
Both factors made a one year commitment (along with the expected 2027 lock-out) to Gray very attractive to several teams - which increased his value.

It basically handcuffed Cubs and Brewers

Ironic that Woodruff and Imanaga probably helped the Cardinals more than they did their own teams.

League has caught onto Imanaga

Woodruff has health concerns
