BTW.....while it is obviously best to deal him I would NOT move him if it means sending half or more of his contract with him.
Not smart!
Agreed. Half or more of his contract then we may as well keep him, unless we are getting back a decent prospect back. That I find hard to believe unless Bloom gets one of the other G.M.s drunk at the meetings in a few weeks. See Shady, you could still be right! 8O
Yes
He is owed $42M for two years with $5M coming from the Rockies.
To shell out $15M or more doesn’t make sense.
Being that his contract drops to $15M for 2027 might make it more likely he gets dealt in July 2026?
I agree totally. Last year they had his WAR at 2.5. At 8mil per War, that would be $20mil. He has almost regressed and the contract has reduced so much, that he is almost where he needs to be money wise. I wouldn't just pay to give him away, even though I do think he needs to go somewhere else. I know WAR isn't everything, but if using it, he is not too far out of whack if he can get the same production this year.

Last year he had a 1.3 WAR, 2024 was 2.5

When Goldy left, he received $12.5M from the Yankees . That was approximately half of what he made previously.
Unsure the percent of Arenado's contract will be picked up by the Cardinals but once Nado's agent (who is working on finding a trade team for his client ) secures a team I doubt a few million one way or the other will hold things up.

My mistake. Brain cramp. Some reason I was thinking it was last year.

Shady wrote: 24 Nov 2025 16:35 pm As opposed to last season. My guess is, the cost has come down. Be nice if Arenado opens up the teams he'd accept a trade to. Bloom needs to get a decent prospect for him. Which still might require a substantial contribution from DeWitt towards Arenado's future salaries.
Doesn't have to be "nice" since he's already done that.

As far as getting that decent prospect, that rest will BDWJr and how much salary he's willing to eat.

Cards sending a cool 20M cash

The rebuild is underway in St. Louis. The Cardinals and Red Sox are in agreement on a trade sending right-hander Sonny Gray to Boston in exchange for righty Richard Fitts and left-handed pitching prospect Brandon Clarke. The Cardinals are including $20MM of cash to help offset Gray’s salary.
