Pluribus

The first 3 episodes have been released on AppleTV. From Vince Gilligan (BB, Better Call Saul) and staring Rhea Seehorn. Anyone watch it yet? I watched episode 1 and really enjoyed it, you can tell that Gilligan came from the X-Files. Very cool vibe and really set things up well. Excited to see where it all goes.

I'm on board with this show, as well. An interesting, thought-provoking concept of a story with a lot of inspiration from other, previous Sci-Fi properties. Am curious to know how long Gilligan anticipates this show going as that will probably dictate how quickly "answers" are revealed.FrankTheTank wrote: ↑12 Nov 2025 09:44 am https://www.imdb.com/title/tt22202452/

I watched the first two episodes. Well done (Seahorn is obviously great), but already feels a bit slow. Is this really a story that needs 20+ hours to tell (they've already ordered a second season)?
Unclear, but I will definitely keep watching. I might wait until the whole season has dropped.

Other than not really ever being able to follow what is going on that is my problem with Severance. It's sooooooo slow at times.Dicktar2023 wrote: ↑12 Nov 2025 17:21 pm I watched the first two episodes. Well done (Seahorn is obviously great), but already feels a bit slow. That said I can watch Rhea Seahorn watch paint dry for hours on end without issue so I'm going to give this a start soon. I assume like most Apple shows it's a once a week thing. I'll probably wait a week or two before I dive in. Looking forward to it.
Re: Pluribus
1st ep not slow at all, but 2nd ep yeah I'm already seeing some of the things that led me to quit Better Call Saul at S3... taking multiple minutes to show Pirate Lady driving to, getting on and piloting a plane off the runway feels overindulgent and pretentious to me. Probably reads really poignant on the script page though!Dicktar2023 wrote: ↑12 Nov 2025 17:21 pm I watched the first two episodes. I wonder if Pluribus is a great 2 hour movie that's going to be spread across so many episodes that the story barely exists anymore.George Zipp wrote: ↑13 Nov 2025 08:22 amOther than not really ever being able to follow what is going on that is my problem with Severance. You need to finish Better Call Saul. That show, IMO, just got better and better. It had a great last act too. Loved that show.1st ep not slow at all, but 2nd ep yeah I'm already seeing some of the things that led me to quit Better Call Saul at S3... taking multiple minutes to show Pirate Lady driving to, getting on and piloting a plane off the runway feels overindulgent and pretentious to me. How she was never even nominated, let alone win one (or multiple Emmys), is truly a joke. The first 3 episodes have been released, and then yes, I think it is weekly. I believe 10 episodes in season 1. I have a friend who HATES Severance, mainly for that reason, he thought season 2 was so...so...sloooooow. I get it, kind of? But I was so into the characters and the storyline it didn't bother me much. It wasn't like The Walking Dead slooooooooow where they would take 6 episodes on one stupid no one cares storyline, just drag it out. That said I can watch Rhea Seahorn watch paint dry for hours on end without issue so I'm going to give this a start soon. I guess we can then look forward to some random 6 ft 14, 385 lb actor showing up to beat the living (bleep) out of the entire cast sometime next season.Dicktar2023 wrote: ↑13 Nov 2025 09:44 amI wonder if Pluribus is a great 2 hour movie that's going to be spread across so many episodes that the story barely exists anymore.George Zipp wrote: ↑13 Nov 2025 08:22 amOther than not really ever being able to follow what is going on that is my problem with Severance. The show does kind of come off like an M Night Shyamalan movie or (cough) Bugonia (cough) - where, once the initial story has been established, now you're just stuck waiting for the big reveal at the end. Hopefully we can get a few episodes just of that guy flying around on Air Force 1 having fun with his harem of women at every UNESCO World Heritage Site.Dicktar2023 wrote: ↑13 Nov 2025 09:44 amI wonder if Pluribus is a great 2 hour movie that's going to be spread across so many episodes that the story barely exists anymore.George Zipp wrote: ↑13 Nov 2025 08:22 amOther than not really ever being able to follow what is going on that is my problem with Severance. I think there is so much more than waiting for the reveal. I mean it's pretty obvious the collective is trying to figure out how to get the 11 (or 12) immune into the group. How they stretch that to four seasons remains to be seen.
But we get things like Air Force One as you mentioned. I LOVED the bit with the hand grenade. They will likely expand on these types of story lines. Also it's going to be interesting to see how Kim Wexler and Zosia's relationship develops. How will Kim deal with the other immune. She clearly had a horrible interaction with all but one of them so far. Is she going to seek out the non english speaking folks. And there is going to be a larger story line with the reclusive immune dude in South America who kept hanging up on her.
Are the collective going to continue to be so loving and nice and accomodating. I tend to doubt it highly and eventually that whole attitude is going to change. Will there be other immune found, guessing yes. Just trying to spitball here where this can go and they can get 4-5 seasons out of "how will the collective get the immune into the collective."
Can't wait to see how this plays out.

I don't feel like there is any "big reveal" waiting out there. It seems like Pluribus is bucking the trend of Lost-era shows and put as many of its cards on the table as possible.todd-parker wrote: ↑13 Nov 2025 11:20 amThe show does kind of come off like an M Night Shyamalan movie or (cough) Bugonia (cough) - where, once the initial story has been established, now you're just stuck waiting for the big reveal at the end. I hope I'm right. If it turns into "try to guess where I'm going!" then I'm out. See my earlier reference to Severance.

Re: Pluribus
I dunno. After this weeks episode I feel like the tides are turning a sliver. When she drugged Zosia and Zosia almost spilled the beans. There are so many directions this can go now. I was worried it was like you originally said, a two hour movie being stretched to four seasons. I don't think that at all right now.Dicktar2023 wrote: ↑21 Nov 2025 19:14 pmI don't feel like there is any "big reveal" waiting out there. And far this doesn't feel at all like Severance. Mainly for me it's because I am following the plot so far.
Also, I'm sure this hasn't gotten past anyone who spent any time with BB but the little nuggets that Gilligan is throwing into this show that trace directly back to BB are great. There have been two obvious ones so far. I expect this to continue for the life of the series.

I really like this show, but I am an easy audience, since Breaking Bad is my favorite show of all-time, and Better Call Saul is in my top-10. I definitely think there is way more then meets the eye with everything that is going on. I really think we will see bits & pieces of things that just won't add up in episodes to come, showing some cracks in the system.
Also a couple cool tidbits - the guy who played the mayor is the real mayor of Albuquerque. Also, during the ending scene, the medic/nurse who performed CPR on Zosia is the real life medic who performed CPR on Bob Odenkirk when he had his on set heart attack while filming BCS in 2021.

Thanks for that info about the mayor and the medic. Cool stuff.
Did you pick up on the BB nuggets?
Spoiler
I have picked up on two obvious ones in the first four episodes. The airline Carol flew to Spain to meet the other English speaking non infected was Wayfarer. In EP4, I think, there was quite a bit of attention paid to a fly in the beginning montage when the guy in South America was working his ham radio. He got really distracted by a fly. The fly might be the single most controversial thing in BB. People either loved or hated that EP

I really like Rhea Seahorn, but I don’t have an Apple subscription and I’m not going to sign up for one for a while until there’s a couple of other shows on there I want to watch.
I found her very watchable in the Saul show but also I became tired of the little stuff they gave her to do which seemed for many episodes to be pretty much complaining” But Jimmy! Don’t do that bad stuff.”
I did like how she got away from that (donkey)(pit) at the end. Maybe I identified a little bit too much with her, and I wanted her to get away from an obviously unhealthy relationship. But then there have been that dramatic tension would there? It WAS cool a couple times when she and Jimmy pulled off a caper..
