He isn't our best hitter. Hererra and Burleson hit for much higher average, same power and higher ops while striking out far fewer times. Move Contreras for a good prospect or a starting pitcher.
I agree. also, if Contreras could have caught it would have made a difference.
He got that contract because he was a catcher - or so we thought.
A big reason WC was moved off catcher was to give IH an opportunity. WC was a total team player. It’s not his fault that IH wasn’t a good catcher and had injuries.
What's you theory on why Contreras remained at 1B when it became obvious Hererra couldn't catch at the MLB level?
Well IH got injured very early. So there was a time early where IH was definitively demoted from catcher.

In that time, WC was making his mark at 1b. And most importantly, the lack of depth on the roster didn’t make it necessary he go back to catcher.

That makes no sense. He only moved to give Hererra an opportunity Hererra was terrible. He didn't move back because he can't catch any longer.

That’s a mischaracterization.

He didn’t move to 1b to ‘give IH an opportunity.’ He moved to 1b because IH WAS GOING TO BE THE STARTER.

WC’s time as 1st base was never meant to be a trial.

Well either way, you see my point. The directive last offseason was WC was going FT 1b and IH FT catcher.

herrera did it in much fewer at bats though and it was fueled by a hot start, although herrera did have s resurgence and stabilization period after it looked like he was sliding. burlesons ops was comparable to wilson. wilson is morw proven but burkeson much younger.

id agree though to move burleson if he agrees and theres a return

If he was still a catcher his offense would make him valuable but Bloom might be able to get something for him.
