Meanwhile Nado doesn’t have this Huge market, and might actually be back despite best efforts.
Once again Bregman is clouding the Arenado trade situation, but now there are two Japanese players that are also available. When all the dust settles, there might still be a place for him, but at what cost? It’s more probable that teams would be more interested in Gorman, than Arenado at that point. If last Spring training was awkward for Arenado, what will this Spring training be like if he is still with the Cardinals. It all started with Mo, but the Cardinals really have mishandled this whole situation!
How did the Cardinals mishandle this situation other than not putting a better team around Arenado and Goldschmidt in 2022 when they were in peak form?
MO had a trade worked out with Houston last offseason, which apparently was on the list of teams Arenado would go to. Arenado turned it down, which I found rather foolish on his part. That park is made for him. Then there was no market for him. His further bad play in 2025 almost insures there is no market for him this winter without the Cards eating lots of salary.
I think that he over played a weak hand and was waiting for a prettier girl to go home with. Somewhat understandable since as it turns out it may have been his last chance.
Paying half was always probable imo.
Donovan may be blocking him more than
Bregman, different pay grade.

I am not certain how he overplayed it. Arenado had 5 teams on his list. If I remember correctly, Astros, Dodgers, Red Sox Yankees and 1 other team. Red Sox and Dodgers didn't want him. He worked out a deal with Astros and Arenado rejected it. That is the information that is public and I did not see anything indicating MO overplayed his hand.
Now when it comes to 3B, there is Bregmann, Suarez, potentially Donovan and 2 Japanese players blocking an Arenado deal. Hard to see an Arenado deal getting done before February unless some team just decides he is the guy for whatever reason.

I guess that I didn't clarify.
NA over played it, mostly not all 5 teams had the same rating, Houston dropped to 5 when Tucker was dealt.
Better?
Bregman is unlikely in NA way. Teams that miss him will aim higher imo than a 1 side of the ball player.
Well see.
I think that NA wheelhouse are the teams not wanting to wade in deep waters for 3B but still want improvement. LAA, AZ, Sea, types they aren't chasing Bregman. again simply opinion.
Ramfandan: The following is not met to be a personal criticism. Thank you for bringing the info forward.
"said Donovan has a massive market to the point that it is "as much action in the trade market as any other player in Major League Baseball."
"The question is actually not so much who is in on Donovan, but who is not," Morosi said.
Oddly enough NOTHING on MLB and they report most actual moves, interest, or rumors. Has the same "massive market" as Tucker?? That is pretty deep dung. Subjective dribble with 0 fact.
Morosi and the rest of talking heads = members of Congress, used car salesmen, and weather forecasters. Rarely if ever accurate and never state that they were wrong or why they were wrong.

Precisely. I am sure Donovan has value. I am also sure he will not bring back some incredible haul. We shall see what Bloom can get for him. If not enough, then I hope he isn't traded just for the sake of trading him. We should know by January. Might even happen right after the winter meetings, if indeed he is traded.

I agree BC. That’s why I said in another thread that all of Cardinals Nation is watching what Bloom does here with Donovan.
If Bloom does trade Donovan and only gets back what the Cardinals got for Helsley, ( as another poster suggested) we should all be disappointed and voice our displeasure!

This is fantastic news! When demand exceeds supply........price goes up, up, up

Lol...I am skeptical that we will be impressed with what they get, of traded
I guess the expected return for Donovan varies depending on one’s valuation. This is NOT Bloom trading Juan Soto as Nationals did a few years ago, While nice that Donovan was selected to his firs All Star game, I highly doubt most GM’s would consider him a perennial All Star caliber player. While a very good player, not an elite talent.
Those feeling Donovan is elite will be the ones saying
‘not impressed (or overly impressed) with the return.

There is a reason for all the Donovan interest. He's the type of player you need to WIN. HE'S MORE VALUABLE THAN HIS STATS INDICATE. All players with a .800ish OPS are not of equal value. Some of those players help you win, some of those don't; and in rare cases, they are the center piece of a championship run because they spread something special within your team. They have the ability to make others play above their statistical value.
In a couple years, after we've developed our youth, we will need to sign higher priced players to help us make a run. We have one of those pieces already in the organization. He's our eventual leader and captain. His leadership will make players around him play at a higher level.
I'm gonna go Melville here. If we let him go, watch and learn. If we keep him, watch and learn.

Arenado over playing his hand I agree with...
When I said Mo and the Cardinals mishandled the situation, what I meant by that was the way they came out and said that their #1 priority was to trade Nolan. Every team knew how badly they wanted him gone, but it turned out DeWitt wasnt willing to pay down the contract enough to get a deal done.
Nolan was to blame too, for sure, but that was his right by contract.

Keep him.
While I agree on his leadership, etc. there seems to be an assumption that Donovan would give up free agency shot and sign an extension. I often see statements ‘ Cardinals should sign Donnie to long term extension’. Maybe Donovan would prefer to test his value on free agent market.
If he does hi thst route, then Cardinals get a draft pick only.
So Bloom has to consider that in determining what is best to do.

We definitely don't know about talks between the team and BD.
I will say that after a Arb 1 and heading into Arb 2 that it would be surprising
to me if there was never a conversation.
