Is Broberg a player you build around?
I’m not seeing it. Playing the most minutes many nights going forward? I’m not even talking about skill. I just have concerns.
Such an unlikeable club right now

Re: Is Broberg a player you build around?
He has not shown he's a player you build around yet. Inconsistent impact on games. The #1 thing for building is consistency.
Armstrong builds on all his young players, whether they are sandcastles or support beams and he cannot tell the difference. You build on them regardless of how good they are because you have no choice, you previously committed yourself. So he will be built around regardless if he should be.

Yeah. Good post. I realize you have to work with what you have, but tick tock … this guy is potentially about to ask to become the highest paid player in franchise history lol.seattleblue wrote: ↑21 Nov 2025 11:23 am He has not shown he's a player you build around yet. Unless he takes a major leap - which is still possible but getting more unlikely - he looks like a 2nd pair guy on a good team. Beginning of last year, he looked like he could be a 1st pair guy but as has been pointed out, he was not able to keep that up and has yet to approach that level of play.

I think that's still Keith Tkachuk, a player that was born to be outplayed by superior players (whoever the opponent was) when it matteredtheograce wrote: ↑21 Nov 2025 11:27 amYeah. Good post. Re: Is Broberg a player you build around?
That’s a pretty high standard question. For a guy the Blues just plucked for a 2nd rounder n change Id say Broberg is doing extremely well.
I really like his poise and steady play. Crazy bc last season was his first full NHL season.

Re: Is Broberg a player you build around?
Well yeah I feel safer building around Broberg than offer the same contract to an undesignated second round pick too. That's a poverty of choices tho, the issue is does this player merit being a true building block with the building block contract he will get
Re: Is Broberg a player you build around?
Are you asking if he deserves a contract that any top 4 NHL defender that is only 24 years old would get them the answer is YES
My anxiety level is always a zero when I see #6 on the ice….very unlike all of the other dmen on the Blues outside of #55.

Blues are darn lucky to have him and he’s good enough to build around. His best years are in front of him for sure. He’s getting paid though…doesn’t matter that he’s not an elite player, he’s gonna be an expensive keep somewhere in the $72-$80 mil range and you better believe the Blues are gonna pay it and they should.

Re: Is Broberg a player you build around?
That's not what he's asking.
Everyone knows he's going to get extended and they are going to build around him. Should they? Is that good judgment? is the question and it's a very appropriate question in contact of the situation we have before us where Armstrong answred yes to that same question with his current players and look how weak and mediocre the other people he invested in are

I don’t see steady at all. He’s vanilla and weak. He’s also pushing 25.

Re: Is Broberg a player you build around?
By vanilla I assume you mean he’s not physical? Yes that is correct. He also doesn’t take many penalties and has never got any PP time. He would have the opportunity to show off his offensive ability a lot more with PP time.

Re: Is Broberg a player you build around?
You are like M. Emmet Walsh in his opening scene with Dan Hedaya in Blood Simple. Hedaya tells him how the Greeks used to cut the head off the messenger who brought them bad news and the way Walsh handles this scene and this reaction to that is exceptional and defines the character brilliantly. Cackling on a whole other level, he tells Hedaya he's welcome to cut his head off, he'll just crawl around without it.theograce wrote: ↑21 Nov 2025 11:45 amYou feel me. Re: Is Broberg a player you build around?
He’s not strong on his stick is my biggest issue when your future is projected to play against the top dogs. His reads in the defensive zone also needs work.stlblue06 wrote: ↑21 Nov 2025 11:48 amBy vanilla I assume you mean he’s not physical? Yes that is correct. We are talking about a guy who is soon to be asking for generational wealth

Re: Is Broberg a player you build around?
Simple answer….yes they should and the easiest answer I can give you is , because every other GM in the league would do the same for this player. You can’t be afraid to build around a player because you think the contract might not work out in your organizations favor. There isn’t a GM in the league that has that crystal ball…no wanna be fan GM either has it either.seattleblue wrote: ↑21 Nov 2025 11:43 am That's not what he's asking.
