17 years in a row he hit at least one HR and his last he hit was at 43 years of age.
And of course, the legendary game where he and Marichal 16 inning game in which Marichal threw 227 pitches and Spahn 201. The score ended 1 - 0 Giants on a walk off Willie Mays home run in the bottom of 16th inning.

Re: OT: Warren Spahn
If he were a modern day Cardinals people here would demand we trade him for prospects as soon as he hit age 30.OldRed wrote: ↑15 Nov 2025 07:52 am Seems like Spahn is often overlooked as one of the greatest pitchers ever.
Cy Young 511 wins
Walter Johnson 417 wins
Grover Alexander 373 wins
Christy Mathewson 373 wins
Warren Spahn 363 wins
Spahn didn't win his first ML game until he was 25, because of serving in WWII.
13 times he won 20 or more games in a season.
At 42 years old he was 23 - 7.
I was lucky to have seen him pitch and have to have met him and had a beer with him.
Re: OT: Warren Spahn
Not really. He did have a few good years. An 18 year career.Galatians221jb1 wrote: ↑15 Nov 2025 21:37 pmSpahn’s teammate Lew Burdette was one of the best hitting pitchers of all time.60 year Cardinal fan wrote: ↑15 Nov 2025 18:56 pmThe only thing that I am convinced of is that you are the biggest as-$ on this forum.scoutyjones2 wrote: ↑15 Nov 2025 11:40 amLMAO..he is not a good hitter. you posted his stat's. Did any notice 2 pf the top 3 were Cawdnuls, well once upon a time he was a Perfecto!
Re: OT: Warren Spahn
I believe Spahn once claimed his best approach vs Musial was to walk him on 4 pitches and then pick him off first.
Re: OT: Warren Spahn
Drysdale was a decent hitter. Had 7 home runs in 66 at bats one year. Amazing for a pitcher.Galatians221jb1 wrote: ↑15 Nov 2025 21:37 pmSpahn’s teammate Lew Burdette was one of the best hitting pitchers of all time.60 year Cardinal fan wrote: ↑15 Nov 2025 18:56 pmThe only thing that I am convinced of is that you are the biggest as-$ on this forum.scoutyjones2 wrote: ↑15 Nov 2025 11:40 amLMAO..he is not a good hitter. you posted his stat's. Re: OT: Warren Spahn
Gibson was considered a good-hitting pitcher. Some thought Waino was too.
Careers:
Gibby - .206/.243/.301/.544. 24 HRs 144 RBI
Spahn - .194/.234/.287/.521. 35 HRs 189 RBI
Waino - .194/.221/.293/.514. 10 HRs 55 RBI
There's a reason they instituted the DH...
Mostly due to longevity, Spahn has the most RBI of any pitcher as a hitter from 1945 until the DH -- and 2nd most HR. Gibby is 5th in RBI.

Re: OT: Warren Spahn
I remember reading somewhere that there were a few seasons that Gibson had a better batting average than hitters did vs. himself. But I don't feeling like looking it up, you guys can verify it yourselves.ClassicO wrote: ↑19 Nov 2025 21:26 pm Gibson was considered a good-hitting pitcher. Some thought Waino was too.

Incredibly high leg kick. Leaned back so far that several times his knuckles hit the dirt.
